Okay, so Sinitta is not new wave, but since the issue of record companies milking us of our money is a common discussion on these boards (most recently on the Dead or Alive: That's the Way I Like It thread), here is a perfect example of the problem. This past year, Cherry Red released a 2-disc collection of Sinitta tracks produced by Stock Aitken Waterman, packed with 12" mixes. It wasn't the entire catalog, because that wouldn't fit on two discs.
Well, guess what? Now that they have 'tested the waters' (at the expense of the buyers), Cherry Red is giving two of her albums the 2-disc treatment. Out of the 35 tracks already on the previously released greatest hits collection, only 14 of them are not repeated on these new reissues--and the number might be smaller because some of the remixes may have been renamed for these new releases. To avoid a complete overlapping of the track lists, they've filled the remaining space on these new reissues with instrumental versions instead of the remaining mixes that are on the Greatest Hits--which means, you still have to buy all three compilations to have a complete collection.
Will I buy them all? Of course. Is it going to make a bigger, and what I think unnecessary, hole in my pocket? Yes. So it is yet another bitter sweet reissue situation.
