German synthpop from the 80s. Sounds like Alphaville a little. I have the 12" single for Military Drums.

Michael Cretu went on to create Enigma. The one song you should not miss by Hubert Kah would be this one:

In their early years Hubert Kah was part of the Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW) - the german New Wave movement. Their appearance was supposed to be funny in reality it was a little bit infantile from time to time. The least you can say they didn't take themselves too seriously. Unforgettable their tv-performance in the German Hitparade in 1982 - the singer Hubert Kemmler was wearing a nightshirt and besides all the Schlager music singers he came across like an alien. Nevertheless the music was good fun, especially Sternenhimmel. In the mid-eighties the best to describe their music is synthpop as already mentioned.

If that's the short version of "The Picture" wouldn't that be the first time it's on CD? (12" Remix is on Retro:Active 5.)

I think the first time is on this rare Japanese CD release of Tensongs. It includes 'This Picture' as an extra track.

All the best,

I knew that the band rang a bell. Retro Active 5 was an amazing compilation.

Would "The Picture" be represenative of the output of this band?

I tought "The Picture" was a great tune.

Well, the original English version of 1984 was released on vinyl in 1989 for the first time (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9kPFMn-UGw). Francois Kevorkian did an extended version of that song. Only for the English version, not the original German version.

Two years later Hubert KaH did a remix of that song and this one was a bonus track for the Japanese Tensongs album (as eighties already mentioned) as well as the UK tape. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMf27LTc ... re=related)

I just love this song. No matter which version. I am very curious to find out which version they finally release on that new compilation. Song #9 on CD2 could be either one.

One of the greatest bands of all time and one of my all time favorites. I was so happy when I saw this announced a few days ago that I thought I was dreaming. I sent this request to Blank & Jones a little while back and I can't believe it's coming true and they've even added more than what I requested. The only thing that is really missing from this collection is "Angel 07" (Radio Version) and "The Picture" (Dub). Depending on what track 9 of Disc 2 is, we could be missing "The Picture" (Radio Version) from the "It's Me Cathy" 12 Inch. I hope that's what they put on there instead of the Japanese cd version which I think most of us have if we collect Hubert Kah. Anyways, I am anxiously waiting to the beginning of September for this. Just an outstanding tracklisting with so many for the first time on cd tracks.

I might get this cd.

The only knowledge that I have of this band is from Retro Actice 5.

That is the brillance of the Retro Active Series,

I still remember when I bought the Japanese 12" single for "Angel 07". Believe it or not, I was so excited about it that I couldn't sleep all night.

Sean, let's hope they put the original version of "The Picture" on that compilation. Although I love this "Tensongs" version I'd prefer to have the original version on CD at last.

There is just one thing I am really missing: the promo remixes done for "Military Drums", called the "Crossover Radio Edit" and the "Power Mix". Stupid names for a mix, but great sound! I already proposed these mixes to B&J for their so80s compilation. Unfortunatedly they took the regular extended version. But nevertheless: with this compilation a dream has come true!

I have to say The Picture is one of my favorite eighties songs, and I will certainly be getting this compilation as well. I also liked the slowed down German version on the last Hubert Kah CD and if you like the track I'd also recommend the cover version by synthpop band Iris on their "Disconnect" CD.

Chris, you are right. Those promo mixes of Military Drums would have been nice to have on this release.

Track 9 of Disc 2 is "The Picture" from the Japanese "Tensongs" cd.

Can't wait to hold this 2cd set in my hands. Hubert Kah has been one of my favorite bands for years so to say that I am excited about this release is an understatement. Just a few more days.
