So they are not going to release this 60 track as a deluxe edition cd set? [:(!] So, for those who buy the cd media, we get shortchanged 45 tracks.

There was a recent "Best Of" CD. The "Rest Of" (these 60 tracks) will be a download bundle only. I guess they don't see it realistic and financially logical to issue those 60 tracks on CD. With MP3s they don't risk losing any money.

I really don't think it's too risky for them to press a 1,000 limited edition copies considering fans of any of the projects would love to get the b-sides and rarities. Then again, maybe these days, even that maybe a hard number to reach for sales. Pretty sad.

Well, yes, the thing is, I think they see a potential larger profit since they have no manufacturing costs. 60 tracks for the price of a regular new CD. I don't think they consider "old school" fans who want something tangible. They just play it safe. And they did release a physical CD for the "casual fans". Or so they think?

That's just too bad. They can release it as a limited edition deluxe 3 or 4 cd and sell it for $30 each. There should still be enough collectors to sell this to.

Mute did this with Nitzer Ebb too...they put all of NE's single sides that weren't on Body of Work in a digital bundle (called In Order), with no CD release. Worst part: they only made it available in the UK. It's bad enough that they don't release this stuff in a physical format, but why not release it digitally in the US? You'd better believe I pirated that--but I'm willing to pay for it!
Which is to say, I imagine it's going to be the same deal with the I Start Counting bundle...

Yes it seems so. MP3 has its advantages, tracks which would not have otherwise been released at all, are now released as MP3, which is better than not at all of course. And surely non-UK fans will have to resort to illegal downloading. But perhaps it will be made available outside UK?

I have now listed the entire 60 tracks on my site.

It took time because I don't want to only put the titles there, but also to state where and when they were originally released.

Do you know what has happened to Mix 1 of Still Smiling from the promo 12" L12 MUTE 35, 1985. This mix seems to be a little mystery since it's release date. Is it or will it be available in digital format? Or do I have to convert it from my worn out vinyl?

You mean this record
http://www.discogs.com/I-Start-Counting ... se/1048047
"numanx" commented there last year:
Mix 1 is often referred to as "Fortran 5 Mix", could be (though I doubt it),
but definitely not the Fortran 5 mix available on The Cataloge CD & Cassette,
or the US 4 track promo 12".
This mix (Mix 1) is exclusive to this release.
(end of quote)
I guess Mute could not find this mix...
At least it's available on our friend youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRwa_Kf8qFg
You can save the sound from there.
It has some crackles, but not too much.
Sounds very much like another Mute group, I wonder which one?

Did anyone buy the "Konnecting..." CD (Best Of I Start Counting / Fortran 5 / Komputer)? Was the booklet informative? Story? Release dates/discography info?

I made a discography for I Start Counting
http://www.discog.info/i-start-counting.html
It was a bit complicated, hard to find release dates/months & the info on the net was a bit confusing/contradictory, so I had to think more than twice, hope I got it right. Fortran 5 is next.

Unfortunately that 10-minute version of Million Headed Monster (Listen) has never been officially on CD - only the B-side was

I now completed my Fortran 5 discography:

Hope it's correct, release dates are hard to find, even with a label like Mute. There used to be an official MUTE site that gave the dates..
