This is welcomed news!!! I tried so hard to get into their last album, but couldn't. Hopefully, this one will push the right buttons on me like most of their discography.

Every album of theirs has got steadily worse since SOFAD bit similar in a way to U2 since Achtung Baby so i would be very surprised if there is an improvement hopefully i will be proved wrong.

Maybe they should hook up with some of their former classmates to bring some "old school blood" back to DM!!!

That could be interesting

Still looking for my girl with auburn hair and tawny eyes...

Or bring back Alan Wilder into the lineup. Wasn't he a surprise guest in some if their recent gigs?

Have to agree with this. Everything up to and including Violator is never off my playlist, but really struggle with the later stuff. I hope I'm proved wrong, but my hopes aren't high.

Lerxst's comment about every album since SOFAD has gotten steadily worse may be true, but every album has had at least 4 or 5 songs I've liked. Their video's are still entertaining and original. Dave's voice has gotten much gruffier and less smoother. The 12" remixes are too techno/house/ebm/noise for my tastes. I have purchased each and every 12" since day one and had to throw in the towel with Suffer Well. I've removed all my Depeche Mode 12" mixes from my mp3 player and replaced them with their albums. I'm enjoying them much more than I thought I would. I welcome a new album this year, as long as they don't make a pricey "Deluxe Box Set Edition" like they did with Sounds Of The Universe.

I used to get a kick whenever I heard a New Wave Band like the Smiths or XTC on the radio. Now I hear them in the grocery store and in restaurants.

Amen to the above. I think I'm really bothered by Dave's voice. I hate that it's ruined due to (probably) smoking like a fiend. It's like what happened to Lucille Ball and Whitney Houston ravaging their voices with ciggs/liquor/etc. I miss the smoothe warm tones off-set with the icy electronics. And, I believe the melodies aren't as extraordinary as they once were with their earlier discography. To me (and I know there will be some arguments to the contrary) but I thought "Ultra" was their last best album. Oh well. Still hoping for the old magic to re-surface.

Add a me too. I used to anxiously await each new Depeche Mode single and search out the promos in Goldmine magazine. Now, when I hear that they're up to something new, I usually listen to it once and quickly forget about it. I hate to be punny, but usually, It's No Good. Maybe they'll lift the curse with this next album.

Anyone else getting a little tired of Dave screwing up the live album experience by constantly inserting the words 'Oh yeah!' into each and every song. Stick to the words, fella. That's what got you to the party in the first place.

Funny to read the comments about Dave's voice. Way back, I used to wish that they would re-record some of their earliest hits. For example, the 1984 live version of Ice Machine sounds great, but I wished that it were a studio version. Now, Dave's voice sounds like gravel, and the music is full of guitar. Take me back to the mid-eighties, pipe-banging Depeche Mode.

It's finally coming out now, in March, and will be titled "Soulful".
Here is a song sample (I guess unfinshed)

Love DM, but hate the album title. Are DM aiming for the r&b charts ?

This track sounds like a steaming pile of shit, and I will not waste a cent on another disappointing album, especially after optimistically forking out the cash for the super deluxe boxed edition of the highly lackluster "Sounds of the Universe". I thought I'd give Depeche another try after I heard and liked some tracks from "Playing The Angel", but I think I'm done now. So are they.
