I like the concept of these compilations to put these versions in a chronological order and I like especially this era (1979-1984) of Sparks - and also of pop-/wave-/synth-music in general.
Booklet is nice and remastering sounds fine to these ears (have listened to it only on my car hi-fi only) but I CAN NOT believe that AGAIN the 7" edit of Young Girls is included on this 12" collection - instead of the actual 6+ minute original 12" version.
And also the inclusion of the Dave Aude's 1999 remix of "The Number One Song In Heaven" seems to be odd for a compilation of the early 80s era and sounds very out of place here.

Can anyone post a sound sample of, say..., 'Progress'? Peferably the end or beginning of the song. I want to determine if these were mastered from vinyl or tapes before I purchase.

I bought the 12 inch one haven't listened to it yet but going by the reviews on Amazon they have fucked this up as well. I was looking forward to having the original mix of The Number One Song In Heaven but it's some crappy 1999 remix that's on it and the intro to Beat The Clock is fucked up. I should have known better buying anything on Repertoire horrible label.

OK I got an explanation now. This new "REAL Extended" CD version will correct the wrong Mixes: The "new" version omits track 9 on CD 2 (Number One Song In Heaven with Jimmy Somerville) and the versions of track 4 (The Number One Song In Heaven) on CD 1, and track 5 (Young Girls) on CD 1 are changed (assumingly to their proper 12" Versions). I hope this fixes the problems?
This new 2-CD is out now:

I believe so, after having comminicated with an employee, seems they prefer mastering form vinyl. Perhaps finding old master tapes is very difficult. In any case their recent Moroder rare tracks sounded very good, I could not hear any vinyl noise. They apparently have very good sound engineers. As for this SPARKS 2-CD, I don't know the sound quality, but I think it's good? I haven't bought it yet, as being a fan of over 200 groups can be expensive. /JW

The versions are corrected on the "Real" Extended. However, still about 1 sec or so is missing from the intro to Beat the Clock. Might not sound like a big deal, but then rhythm starts "wrong" in this way. /JW
