The new Fixx studio album, Beautiful Friction, is due out this week...anyone have it? It's the first LP with the classic lineup since their 4th LP if not mistaken.

Touring the US this year.

I got it (of course) and I like it. Much better than anything they've done over the past 15 years. Many songs sound like they could fit on Shuttered Room or Phantoms and I love how they are using the original logo again, and George Underwood for the artwork. Nice to have the "classic" lineup intact (really, the 4 main guys have always been there, but Dan K. Brown is back on bass and it really does make a difference).

I was looking at buying this...however, iTunes Australia charges an insane A$16.99 for all single disc releases...pure insanity for a download...as a matter of fact, we pay 50% more for downloads than anywhere in the world...a joke.

That rant over, I will be buying this, physical copy, from the US...thanks for the review!

Great album, definitely better than Want That Life and Elemental. There are shades of Shuttered Room (What God?, Shaman), Phantoms (The Girl With No Ceiling, Beautiful Friction), and at times has the aggressive sound of Calm Animals. There's maybe two songs that just haven't grown on me yet, but overall it's a terrific album. The band was mixed well, too. Adam Woods' drums sound great, and Cy Curnin's voice is in top form (I was unsure of his high range these days, until I heard What God). I also like the single, "Anyone Else", though I overplayed it a bit before the album came out. It's a strong song (and video) that should (in a perfect world) get them some attention outside of their fanbase.

I am also happy to see the classic logo and Underwood art, it's a nice nod to the RTB, Phantoms and Calm Animals. I visit the Fixx forum frequently, and a few of the Fixxtures have stated that the recent live shows are outstanding, and the band has 're-tooled' the classic songs to sound more like their original versions (Saved By Zero has not really sounded like its 'old self' in years).

This one is absolutely worth buying. If The Fixx ended their career with this album, they would be going out on a high note.
