Amazing indeed. Not sure what to make of the new song and video. His voice is gone but still very Bowie. It's got a great vibe, like an old (old!) friend coming to visit to reminisce.

It's great to have Bowie back, it was such a surprise today... did we ever think we'd ever hear from him again? I was a little disappointed on the first play of the single but it has grown on me a little since (it was all over the radio today in the UK). The video is perfectly strange but touching. A musical hero returns and that makes me happy.

The single sounds like Buddha Of Suburbia tempo wise a bit. Bowie never disappoints .

1. I got my Beach Boys back in 2012. Bowie in '13? These are my two favourite artists by a hemisphere. I'd long given up on new studio recordings.
2. Is his voice gone? Are we sure? He's undersung - even underpitched - to great effect before ("Amlapura" [1991], "The Lonliest Guy" [2003]). Something tells me - heck, I've got the new song as four minutes' worth of evidence - if his voice is gone he could make bloody great art with it regardless. There's a Sinatra version of "Silent Night" from 1991 that sounds like a pumice stone on sandpaper played at 16 RPM, and the croaky old thing is as affecting as fuck. A Bowie tour might be a tough ride, but a recording might well be masterful. It's new work anyway: he can present it however he wants so long as the songs are good.
3. I love the cover. It's the stupidest thing I've ever seen, and I think it's GENIUS.
4. He is Bowie. He's basically the reason this forum and men's hairstylists exist. I hope the LP goes top three in America (Beach Boys did) and gives him his highest-peaking Billboard LP ever.
5. I like the song. It's like Scott Walker if Scott got his head out of his ass and wrote actual tunes. (Or hired David to write for him.)
6. None of the above is a riposte to anyone. Just my thoughts. Been a great day for we Bowiephiles.
