Saw this listed on the Cherry Red website. Looks like a straight reissue from a few years ago. Out Mar.25th.

Nope, not a straight reissue. Newly remastered, new liner notes. One extra bonus track (FEELS LIKE THE RICHTERGROOVE - Mike Koglin Mix). New sequence of bonus tracks. But one thing is the same: they missed an excellent opportunity to include more and better extra tracks. Do they think that fans haven't already bought the older CDs by now? Do they think that merely one extra track will motivate fans to buy it again? I, or certainly other fans, could easily have suggested extra tracks that would lead to better sales and more interest. Or maybe Billy's estate only allowed those extra tracks, I don't know. /JW

PS I just noticed this:

A promo cassette with EARLY/DIFFERENT MIXES!
I did a quick google, but could not find anywhere to download it.
Anyone has it digitally? /JW

Um, did this NEED to be "remastered"? The Virgin release is impeccable. If it's OOP, I have no problem with a reissue. But don't touch the sonic perfection of the Virgin CD.

I believe by necessity, yes, as it's a licensed release, so I guess they weren't allowed to use the original production template of whatever they call it. Or perhaps Cherry Red makes a habit of always making their own mastering. CD licensing deals are often very complex and contain rules that we would never understand why. I'm just surprised there were reissues as at all, of an album that sold about 2000 copies in the first place. And that they didn't take the opportunity to "fix" the extra tracks. Not less than TWO are from the earlier album Glamour Chase! /JW

Well, I'm a huge fan of The Associtates and Billy MacKenzie, and have the original Circa cd as well as the Virgin reissue of Outernational. The original Circa sounds much better than the Virgin, by the way. I think it's a great album, and it's nice to keep it in print. Being such a completist, I'll probably pick this up as well.
The thing that gets me is, the album that's gone OOP and is now fetching big $ for used copies is The Associates "Sulk" album. That's an album that should NEVER be out of print! Actually it appears Double Hipness, The Affectionate Punch and Fourth Drawer Down are all OOP as well. I wonder if Cherry Red or someone else will rerelease those?

No surprise that the Circa is better than the Virgin. I seriously doubt CRed will improve on either. The Associates/MacKenzie are arguably the best ever new wave artist. Hard to believe any of the Associates CDs are OOP but NONE of them need to be remastered.

No, and in a perfect world, someone would go and "un-remaster" the V2 Associates cds - all three of them are shamelessly and needlessly brickwalled. If anyone has the old German cd of Sulk, even though it was the altered USA version, you know how good they could have sounded.
Other than that V2 did an outstanding job on them - nice artwork, liner notes and fantastic bonus tracks from good source tapes.
