Howard Jones The Video Collection DVD

Howard Jones The Video Collection DVD

Postby moni » Wed Jun 05, 2013 1:56 am

This will be available to buy tonight at 19.00 UK time here http://www.howardjones.com/ priced at £17.50 + P+P. Is it just me or is this man taking the piss with the prices he is asking for his stuff. For £17.50 i would expect it to be released on Blu-ray at least.

Whilst i understand your disappointment at least this man is giving his fans what the record companies fail to do. If he does this properly like he did with the 3 box sets (which i own) then it is well worth the money. I have had a Blu Ray player for 3 years and do agree that say £20 for a Blu Ray and you have a much better deal and product. Unfortunately i think this is probably impossible thanks to Sony and their ridiculous charges for use of their Blu Ray system. In comparison to the double disc DVD of Gary Numan's Machine Music which i think was about £28 and that was in person at his gigs then £17.50 is pretty cheap. Don't forget most artists don't have a DVD collection of Promo videos and there must be a good reason for this. And it has to be said it's better to have these products available as opposed to not and no choice. No one HAS to buy these products. But Howard needs to make his money back for all the work that goes into these things.

Sell less at 17.50, or sell more at, say, 12.50 ...

Why the hell would you want standard definition pictures on a high-definition disc? You do actually understand what Blu-Ray is for???

Agreed. Just because the videos are burnt to Blu-Ray, it doesn't mean that they are magically "crisper" and "cleaner" than old 80's video-tape. Unless they are remastered or upscaled, it should look exactly the same, just on a bigger television set than was available in the 80's.

Still looking for my girl with auburn hair and tawny eyes...

To be fair with most of you on here you can't really win. If it's not the quality that people moan about it's the price as i said before you have two choices. Buy or don't buy. schenko wheather you want this or not doesn't really matter. Plenty do and plenty will buy. Jed was only in a video or two wasn't he? Personally i'd much prefer EVERY product i'd like to see out there so i have a choice to purchase at full price or check for second hand rather than nothing at all. obs, no point at all making zero money 1000 times if you can make £1 500 times. Even a million x nothing = Nothing! I doubt at £12.50 he'd make any money worth speaking about. I'm sure he's placed some thought before pricing. I think you need to do some research on the cost of these things. Sourcing the originals, transferring, designing, printing etc

Looking good, I have the Laserdisc version of the promos. Would like to see a good transfer from masters along with an undate on sound with his remasters which sounds to be the case, obviously PCM. Price, no problem, rather pay more for a good job. This is a very fair price considering the quality of the project from what I've read.

Agreed, Elvis. Schwenko, i won't be buying it as a matter of fact. Toyed with the idea but can't bring myself to order it. Would probably only watch it once or twice at most i'm happy with my three live DVD's (two of which i was at) and happy to see him again for the 30th anniversary tour (i was at 20th and 25th) so as a matter of fact you are wrong!

It doesn't cost that much to physically make a DVD, so there will be gross profit for each one that is sold. Nice try, but your argument isn't entirely accurate.

Just putting in my 2 cents.
Howard, like Gary Numan, I believe has a limited license for all of his master tapes. His contract only allows him to sell a limited number of copies and just like Gary, has has to compensate for the high cost of the tapes, mastering, production, etc.
I applaud artists like these. They offer quality work to their fans.

All the best,

obs, it may not be but then neither is yours. The work still needs to be done and for that someone needs to be paid. If this DVD (or a thousand others for almost any 80's artist you can think of) was such a money spinner don't you think there would be a standalone Video collection DVD's for say The Thompson Twins (i wish), Paul Young, Nik Kershaw, Kim Wilde etc. Oh and you missed eighties point out. They are spot on with what they say and that's one of the reasons these things are released in a limited quantity. £17,500 is the total that will be made from this. Hardly a fortune considering all the work, cost and effort

I'm not much of a DVD collector unless its spectacular . HJ could've celebrated his 30th Anniversay by putting a 2cd/ DVD greatest hits set. Now that would've been nice !
