some good news I know a number will be interested in

Hello

Thanks for your mail. I just heard yesterday that Cherry Red have been given the go ahead from Warners to re-issue the 2x2 album on CD. They are looking at an October 2013 release date. We are attempting to replace some of the tracks on the original album with tracks that we feel are more representative of the Blue Zoo we knew and loved. We have re-recorded seven of the older tracks, four of which are finished, final mixes await the other three. With this release of 2x2 we might be able to release these tracks off of the back of this, who knows hey? As for new material, we haven't really got to that stage yet. Thanks for your support , keep you posted on the website www.bluezoo.org.uk.

Come see us at Cargo, Shoreditch, London - September 25th.

Cheers

Blue Zoo

agreed , it would be nice to see some 12" versions as well . I know people do have a lot of digs at Cherry Red and their quality does vary ( yes I got the belouis somme album) but there are not many labels that are brave enough to bring out releases like this. the retroactive series did a good master of cry boy cry 12" so lets hope the quality is high on this . Im your man was the first single I got from this band so great to have that on cd for the first time . As your website shows there is quite a lot to pick from

Unfortunately there will be little chance of b-sides and extended versions as that would cost Cherry Red a lot more money as it would be classed as a compilation rather than an album.

As for the attempt to get some tracks replaced I'm not too sure about this. I would prefer to hear the album as it is rather than have a version that sates their ego.

this is terrible news! I've waited for this album for so long, and now they are going to REPLACE??? some songs and re-record (whicheverones)???
This is a terrible idea. Morrissey keeps doing this with his remasters/rereleases, but at least his albums were previously available (and still are) as they were ment to be upon their first release. When will the artists realize that the people that want to own their work from the 80's want it for sentimental reasons mostly antd want to enjoy the works as we did so many years ago. Yes, by all means add the b-sides and maxi versions (but in the appropriate order - not what nik is doing with the riddle), but leave the album alone!

Andy O had posted on his website before about the original running order of 2X2, and how they were asked to go back and make it more commercial. Many of the recorded tracks were dropped and new ones added. The result, in my opinion, is a very spotty, fairly weak LP. I have some of the dropped songs on the super rare 'For All I Really Care' compilation LP, and most were excellent. I would like to have it released in its originally intended track listing. But, at the very least, also feel the officially released LP sequence and songs should not be exchanged with modern day recordings. Use those as bonus tracks or something.

And the idea of licensing becoming a compilation is true with Warners in the U.S., but it may be different in the UK. a 2 CD set with all the outtakes and B sides would be ideal.

I too have got the "second" Blue Zoo LP and Andy O was not too pleased when he discovered what happened. Would be nice to see those get an official airing.

As for licensing the same is true over here as it is there. It's simply not a viable option most of the time. An example of this is the Landscape two albums on one CD with no extra tracks.

There is also the 2002 Cherry Red Landscape CD FROM THE TEA-ROOMS OF MARS... with 4 bonus tracks not from the album, which should count as a compilation no?

Landscape is owned by Sony, whice even stateside doesn't have a problem with adding bonus tracks.

True. I can't comment specifically on arrangements with individual labels or bands but it's not unheard of for things to change in the interim.

Curious wording on the Cherry Red site. "Contains nine of the original album tracks". Wonder which track was left off as there's ten tracks on the album.

Just booked my ticket to see them in London next month. T'Pau is headlining but you can't have everything.

there seem to be all 10 tracks from the original LP, however the running order is different. I wonder why that is. More importantly, I do hope that all tracks are the original versions, as there were talks of re-recording etc. We will see.
