XTC "Nonsuch" deluxe CD+DVDAudio & CD+BluRay

XTC "Nonsuch" deluxe CD+DVDAudio & CD+BluRay

Postby discoginfo » Wed Aug 21, 2013 4:57 am

Released 7 Oct as CD/DVD-Audio and CD/Blu-Ray editions.
Quote from http://chalkhills.org/:
"Nonsuch is the first in a series of expanded XTC album editions including 5.1 surround mixes, new stereo mixes and high-resolution stereo mixes of the original material along with a wealth of extra audio and visual material. Steven Wilson has produced the new mixes with the input of founding band member Andy Partridge and the full approval of the band. Presented in special packaging with an expanded booklet and sleeve notes by Andy Partridge, Colin Moulding and Dave Gregory, two formats will be available including a CD plus DVD-Audio version, and a CD plus Blu-Ray version with many extras."

Those extras include exclusive instrumental versions, exclusive Andy Partridge home demos, Colin Moulding work tapes for songs, filmed footage of the band working on the album, and promo videos for The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead and The Disappointed.

5.1 mixes of favorite albums are not much of a pull for me, even though I finally got a Pro Logic system a few years ago. I can't be bothered to sit in the "sweet spot" in the living room for dedicated listening. Most of my serious music listening is in my car on the long commute each day to work. A second demerit on this project is the fact that "Nonesuch" kneecapped this XTC fan seriously hard after loving everything from "Black Sea" through "Oranges + Lemons" in real time. When the band sat out most of the 90s in their battle with Virgin I could have cared less after the drag that was "Nonesuch."

In the praise of this package I have to say that it is priced extremely right for those who have the inclination!
