Nina Hagen - Unity

Nina Hagen - Unity

Nina Hagen, the top Eastern (then unified) Germany punk star of 70-80-ies, released a new album, Unity.

The last track is sung with Bob Geldof.

A vivid proof, that punk is still alive!

I didn't have high expectations for this album after hearing the title track last year. But the 2nd single, "Shadrack" gave me something to look forward to. Now after hearing the entire album I can say how pleasantly surprised I am that it's such a pleasurable listen! Varied, amusing, Nina's voice is still intriguing. Her tone has been deepening & gaining more husk & heft over her last few releases & that's in full effect on Unity. But still having the dexterity she's always had, Nina sounds as nimble & adventurous as ever. Really, the only album she's unleashed that was a mere so-so was Revolution Ballroom--and even that has a few tracks I include on my list of Nina All-Times. So this latest offering is as consistantly appealing as anything else Nina's given her people. Vocally, sonically, thematically, to quote Trouser Press it's "more joy from Planet Nina".
