Love that Monroes song.

"Sausalito Summer Night" - Diesel

(It actually made the Billboard charts.)

None of these bands I'm going to mention are exactly unremembered, but I do think they are classifiable as "one-hit wonders" and novelty acts while in actuality, they made some good music outside of the big hit the public at large remembers them for:

Men Without Hats (known for Safety Dance, also worthy for Antarctica, I Got the Message and parts of the Pop Goes the World album)

Trio (known for Da Da Da, also worthy for Anna (LetMeInLetMeOut), Hearts are Trump, Sunday You Need Love Monday Be Alone and Broken Hearts for You and Me)

Wall of Voodoo (known for Mexican Radio, also worthy for the entirety of their first 2 albums)

The Vapors (known for Turning Japanese, also worthy for loads of their recorded output)

I know people remember these bands, but it's largely to poke fun at them. A Flock of Seagulls gets the same bad rap (Known for I Ran, worthier still for Space Age Love Song and some really great songs off their first three albums)...

I realize some of these bands are lightly coated with a layer of nostalgic cheese, but I get tired of having to defend them (and new wave in general.)

I have a lot of frenz who like to hear some of this stuff occasionally, but it is almost taken as a joke by them. With the knowing smirk...you know.

But while I dig on lots of different music, it's these bands and others from the same time and same general genre who I keep coming back to because they bring me so much pleasure.
