Mold on Vinyl

Postby MARV » Fri Apr 09, 2010 2:06 am

During some spring cleaning the other day, I decided to pull out some old vinyl and got quite a shock when I discovered that there's mold growing on some of my records. Is there a proper way to clean this off? Can ordinary record cleaners work or is there a specific product for this? And since we're on the subject, can vinyl rot?

I'm not that fussy, and others may disagree with this: I'd probably take one of the moldy records you're not TOO attached as my 'guinea pig', and just spritz it with a little bleach diluted way down with water in a spray bottle. I don't think it's going to 'eat away' at the vinyl. It should kill the mold. I'd probably wipe it clean with an old t-shirt.

You'd be surprised what I've spilled on my records, wiped away with a shirt sleeve and kept on trucking.

WHOA...ok, I'll try it on some vinyl I don't care too much about first. Thanks for the tip!
