Name That Tune - Video Edition Resuts

Postby Frau_Blucher » Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:52 pm

And now for something completely different...

This is a Video Name That Tune Game. 25 classic New Wave video clips with only one catch...there's no audio! I have no idea how this is gonna go over but am hoping it's a lotta fun. Many of these are pretty obvious with plenty of visual cues in most of them.

There are 2 seconds of black between each clip in the linked 22meg video below. There's some compression artifacts - tradeoff to keep the size down. Any Quicktime-loaded computer should be able to play it. Just guess the Title and Artist. The game is on a 75 point basis - 1 point for each Artist, 2 points for each Title. Download the response form below and email it to me after you're done (my email is in the form). Make sure to include your forum name so I know who you are. I'll immediately send back the Score, Answer Sheet, and a link to the audio-included clips if interested. Please remember NOT to post your responses here!

Here's the link for the response form, right-click to download:
The Video NTT Blank Form

Here's the clip link, right-click (control-click Mac) to download, it won't appear in-line:
The Video NTT Sampler

The game will end on Sunday January 8th at 9PM EDT - please note earlier end date.

Good luck and lemme know if this is interesting at all.

Blir, I have to hand it to you, this latest NTT is a brilliant twist! I can see why the artist only gets one point as opposed to two for the song title. The fun thing about this game is even if you don't know the answers, the video itself might contain hints to them. Well done, I hope a lot of fellow posters try this one out!

Blir, that was really cool.
I got all but three. (I think) I'm trying to read the lips on number 14, but it's not working. It's driving me crazy!!

Thanx Blir!

I guess the fact that I never spent much time watching music videos is gonna hose me on this game. I'm pretty sure I know some of them, but since I haven't seen any of them in like 20 years, it's tough to know for sure. [:I]

Game Update

First, I'm so glad you guys are getting a chance to play. I didn't know how this would go over. Despite the enthusiasm, I have to say I think it's missing something. I mean, music video without the 'music'?? I think I made this too powerpuff in trying to pick videos that are so visually recognizable. After all, the score stands at a stout 69.5 out of 75 with a couple of perfect scores. I'm gonna work on the next one - shorter clips, a bit more obscure maybe and sound!

And since this has been pretty cake and there's several responses already, I'm gonna call this early on Sunday night instead to make way for the new game. So again, this game will end on Sunday January 8th at 9PM EDT. Thanks to all who've taken a look.

MAS! All you all...you guys are kicking butt on this one. But we're going into the last 24 hours of this NTT. The next one is all set done and ready to upload with both video AND music this time but perhaps a bit more obscure tracks...but still easy probably. Average with a day to go is 65.5.

GAME RESULTS

Thanks to all who played the inaugural Video NTT. We had a great turnout and STEEPLY skewed scoring curve. The average ended up being 87% with the following folks finishing in the money...er, if there were any money...

Win: 100%: SomebodySomewhere and 2Nu
Place: 97%: Warzau, Mathman, and My Aural Stimulator
Show: 95%: mjlauf and Korova

Video results are below. I won't bother posting any of these pretty common vids, although will take request if anyone wants a particular one. I will however post a few nuggets for the next Video NTT which might have some more gems. Thanks to all who participated. Hope you check out the next one too: http://www.nwoutpost.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10343
