Any Love for the Flamin' Groovies?

Postby profpike » Wed May 24, 2006 1:38 pm

Howcum I never see much on this site about the groovies? Think about they released a self-produced EP in 1968? Who was doin' that then? They spanned the decades from the 60s to the 80s-I would almost wager to say they invented power pop.

How 'bout some groovie love?

''Shake some action'' is one of the greatest pure power pop songs-i think its from the album''Jump into the night''.A strange case of band, from tough post-psychedelic rockers transformed in late 70s into a power rock combo.Great you remember them!

They also sounded a bit (dare I say) early early Grunge in "Teenage Head". Love this song, and of course "Shake Some Action" and "You Tore Me Down".

As much as I love the Groovies I think you got to go way back to the
Beatles as the pioneers of powerpop. For me I think the Raspberries
were a better band vs 70,s Flammin Groovies.Just my humble opinion.

Rasberries were really good-along with Big Star from the same period-but their albums sank commercialy from the bad production skills of Capitol.Still is a very influential power pop band, along with the personal albums of Eric Carmen.
