Opinions on 2005 Echo album?

Postby profpike » Mon Jun 19, 2006 10:02 am

Hi Folks-people probably weighed in on this last year when I was on extended hiatus from this message board-but what are folks' opinions on Siberia? I do enjoy the fact that Will and Mac have kissed and made up and I saw the Bunnyguys in Boston last November and enjoyed them immensely (my fourth bunnyconcert). Aside from the fact that Mac doesn't have nearly the range (or the hair!) that he used to-I thought most of the tracks sounded like the last 'official' Bunnymen album from about 20 years ago. The only bad track, in my opinion, is the straight up sappy love song that closes the set. Any other opinions?

There was indeed a thread on this, but I think it bears repeating - I love that album. Best since Ocean Rain. Loaded with really listenable tunes. I'll even give a thumbs up to "What If We Are". Rather than mushy, it's more symbolic in my mind. Here was Mac spending all those years singing about high-minded metaphorical stuff, and then now in his old age, this, naked emotion, a gushing forth. I think that's hilarious and great in the bigger scheme of things. Like he's saying all that old stuff was well and good, but at a certain point in your life, so is this other stuff and opinions otherwise be damned. You know? [8D]

Great album. I think it has to be their best since the 80's. It is a definite must own. It really comes through after the 4th or 5th listen... very cohesive, nice sound. After four attempts since the reunion in 1997, they finally got the sound right. I guess it is all in the producer sometimes. Excellent stuff.
