What's the worst CD you ever brought?

Postby jumpshift » Fri Jun 30, 2006 3:57 am

I'd like to know. Mine would have to be a Take That album. I really thought their big US hit back for good was a nice little song. So I went out and bought the album. That was the only good song. The rest of the album was so annoying that I ended up throwing it away in the trash. Anyway... What's the worst, vile, or most embarrassing CD or tape or vinyl you ever brought?

The worst cd I ever bought was Insane Clown Posse's "The Great Milenko" which I bought because it was the original version on Disney-owned Hollywood Records (it got recalled almost as soon as it hit the shelves once the Disney folks realized what they were releasing). I bought it solely to resell it on ebay at a hefty profit. [:D]

The worst cd I ever bought thinking I would like it was Coldplay's first. I gave it away after one listen and learned a valuable lesson about blindly trusting the recommendations of others. [xx(]

Naked Eyes - Fuel for the Fire
The first LP Naked Eyes is one of my all time favorites, so it stands to reason that "Fuel for the Fire" would also be a quality product -- wrong.

Wang Chung - The Warmer Side of Cool
Points on the Curve is such an awesome LP, also one of my all time favorites -- I figured how could I be wrong picking up "The Warmer Side of Cool" -- well it's not good.

Twinemen - "Twinemen" (Hi-N-Dry, 2003)

I wasn't living in Boston anymore by the time they formed and I don't think the mp3 samples were online yet at the usual places, so I didn't really know what I was in for. Let's just say that finding out one of my favorite '80s singers from one of my favorite '80s bands (which said singer basically disavowed anyway) went on to be a part of something so painful to listen to still gives me douche chills. Well, that and the 12 bucks I wasted on it. The fact that she got studio help from one fourth of another of my favorite '80s bands was just the Massengil icing on the Summer's Eve cake.

I wanted to say "The Gift of Game" by Crazy Town (which I bought for "Toxic" and not "Butterfly" [Sugar Baby!]), but I paid a cent for that at half.com, so I got most of my money's worth.

I have that same album![}:)]

One of the worst albums I bought was Christian Death's Pornographic Messiah. At the time I didn't know the whole back story of Rozz Williams's suicide, so I thought this album featured Rozz... I was dead wrong[xx(] This is Valor's band and it sucks arse inside out![:(!] I returned that shit when I gave it a once over to listen for anything good - it was terrible[V]

It has to be "Anima Animus" by the Siouxsie spinoff project The Creatures. What a terrible album! The whole thing sounds like a pathetic attempt to appeal to the tready Goth twits of the time. Bland lyrics with boring instrumentation made this a forgettable disaster. Siouxsie resorted back to her Punk roots by pulling out the vulgar language, which could have been an attempt to recapture her youth as she had turned 40 around that time. I found it pathetic and sad.

Unfortunately, the follow up album "Hai" was another disappointment. While it returned to the more traditional Creatures sound of heavy percussion and exotic instruments, there were no hooks in the songs. They were boring, long and draggy. I tried to love it, since I am a huge Banshees fan, but I thought it sucked. Siouxsie NEEDS Severin to make engaging music, and vice versa. Though I like quite a bit of The Creatures' 1989 album "Boomerang" and the 81 and 83 material, it's still not as good as the Banshees.

A Lydia Lunch cassette back in around '84 or so...it was terrible...atonal noise, no musicality whatsoever; I couldn't even get into her "poetry".[xx(] Luckily, I think it only cost me a buck or two.

That's easy, John Tigan's Modern Life CD. John won a local unsigned artist contest on CFNY with an excellent song titled "Million Miles". Based on the quality of that song, I began to search for the CD which was produced as part of the contest prize winnings. It took me almost 20 years to find this CD and when I finally found it I was elated, but once I heard the CD...well, let's just say disappointed doesn't adequately describe the feeling.

Without a doubt the worst CD in my collection.

Hard Corps - Metal and Lace

I bought this on the strength of "Dirty" and thought there would be more tracks in that style. Nope there wasn't, just poor synthpop.

Tie:

Big Pig - You Lucky People (are the ones who never paid import prices for this weak follow-up).

Trio - Trio and Error (mostly error).

Just thought of another:

Pigbag - Discographie (best of - German release)

Contains the hit, the extended version of the hit and 11 piss-poor versions of said hit. Very poor show all round.
