New Band for y'all to check out

Postby profpike » Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:25 am

Hi folks-I think people on this site might like a newer band called Of Montereal-think XTC (Dukes of the Stratosphear-era, Oranges and Lemons) with female vocals-they have a release out that's a full CD plus an EP.

Quirky pop-

I am in no way affiliated with this band aside from the fact that I have played them on the air and they will be playing here in Fargo soon.

Gosh am I embarassed-I just looked them up on Wikipedia-they've been around since '97!

They're from Athens, Ga-but seem to keep the spirit of new wave quirky pop alive

My daughters (age 8 & 6) love their song (and wacky video) "Wraith."

Something about the "let's pretend we don't exist/let's pretend we're in Antartica" makes them laugh.

They started sounding like OMD at some point (which is obviously a good thing) but their earlier stuff is also great, sounding more like 60s pop though. But as far as the more new wave stuff, I couldnt get the song The Party's Crashing Us out of my head for weeks.
