What are your favorite New Wave albums from the 1980s, year by year?

Mine:
1980: "Boys Don't Cry"-The Cure & "Wild Planet"-The B52's

1981: "Talk, Talk, Talk"-The Psychedelic Furs & "Duran Duran"-Duran Duran

1982: "Rio"-Duran Duran & "Shabooh Shoobah"-INXS

1983: "Seven and the Ragged Tiger"-Duran Duran, "Colour by Numbers"-Culture Club, & "Whammy"-The B52's

1984: "Some Great Reward"-Depeche Mode, "It's My Life"-Talk Talk & "Hyaena"-Siouxsie and The Banshees

1985: "The Head on the Door"-The Cure, "Hunting High and Low"-A-Ha & "Fables of the Reconstruction"-R.E.M.

1986: "Please"-Pet Shop Boys, "Brotherhood"-New Order & "Black Celebration"-Depeche Mode

1987: "Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me"-The Cure, "Music for the Masses"-Depeche Mode

1988: "Introspective"-Pet Shop Boys, "Starfish"-The Church & "Peep Show"-Siouxsie and The Banshees

1989: "Disintegration"-The Cure, "Cosmic Thing"-The B52's & "Technique"-New Order

1982-1986 were such great years for music, IMO. I was so young then and missed out on so much. It wasn't remotely mainstream, I didn't hear it until nearly 20 years later.

These are ALWAYS difficult. So I'll do my best.

1980: Blondie "AutoAmerican", Peter Gabriel "Peter Gabriel" (III), B-52's "Wild Planet"

1981: Pete Shelley "Homosapien", Lene Lovich "Flex", Heaven 17 "Penthouse and Pavement"

1982: Kate Bush "The Dreaming", Missing Persons "Spring Session M", XTC "English Settlement"

1983: Tears For Fears "The Hurting," Thomas Dolby "Golden Age of the Wireless", TheThe "Soul Mining"

1984: U2 "The Unforgettable Fire", Eurythmics "Touch", Siouxsie and the Banshees "Hyaena", Echo and the Bunnymen "Ocean Rain"

1985: Kate Bush "Hounds of Love", A-Ha "Hunting High and Low", Cure "The Head on the Door"

1986: Depeche Mode "Black Celebration", Pet Shop Boys "Please", Peter Gabriel "So"

1987: Smiths "Louder Than Bombs", XTC "Skylarking", Cure "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me"

1988: Midnight Oil "Diesel and Dust," Sinead O'Connor "The Lion and the Cobra," Danielle Dax "Dark Adapted Eye", Sugarcubes "Life's Too Good," Edie Brickel and the New Bohemians "Shooting Rubberbands at the Star"

1989: 10,000 Maniacs "Blind Man's Zoo" (Okay, this is more alternative/modern rock than new wave but this was my favorite album in 1989), The Cure "Disintegration", New Order "Technique", The Pixies "Doolittle", Elvis Costello "Spike," The Call "Let The Day Begin, Lightning Seeds "Cloudcuckooland"

(I worked at a record store 1987-1990, and from that time really heard and bought a lot of albums, thus my choices multiply :) )

And because I think there's a missing year in this equation:

1979: Buggles "Age of Plastic," Blondie "Parallel Lines", Police "Regatta De Blanc"

I'm not ignoring your thread, BMG. I still can't decide on some of my favorites--but they'll be up soon.
