Best Two-Tone Single

God I love polls! Most of these songs were from the label (yes even Elvis & Dexy's), however some are not but are related by default for their early involvement and association to the movement(i.e. the movie DANCE CRAZE)...

Hey, thanks for putting up the singles poll SuNomi! [:D] Saved me from doing it... I voted for The Bodysnatchers: "Let's Do Rocksteady!" a great tune, and maybe the underdogs here in the poll, besides 5 songs are covers or based upon '60s ska tunes... Geno is a classic, as well as On My Radio--close seconds I'd vote for.

Best 2-Tone single, that was a cover song would be the first single The Selecter recorded: "The Isrealites" from Desmond Dekker and the Aces! [:D]

This is too difficult. I'm going to implode.

I went with Bad Manners...

So much energy in the Dance Craze LP which they took out BM in later editions of DC.

Not really a bad song on the list.

For capturing the mood of a place and time you gotta go with Ghost town but for moving outside the usual political/issues stance of the genre I always had a soft spot for Too much too young

Wow! This was HARD! Sooooo many favorites, but I went with Too Much Pressure. It gets me dancing when I hear it. But some of my all time faves are: Free Nelson Mandela, Mirror in the Bathroom, One Step Beyond, and Tears of a Clown.

.... easy peasy lemon squeezy, Ghosttown gets my vote. I actually lived in Coventry during the late 80s and very early 90s attending the polytechnic there, about which the song is about. There wasn't another song in the 80s that summed up the terrible damage inflicted on the UK by Thatcher than Ghosttown, it puts me right back there when I hear it.

As said elsewhere, its a good list of tracks on there though in the UK we don't usually associate Elvis Costello with the 2-Tone scene (but did he record / produce on the 2 Tone label?). Any of you blokes remember Bad Manners?! Fantastic fun! Gotta love Special Brew (the track, not the gutrot lager its about!).

I have to off the board and vote for the song that really got me into Ska:

Specials - A Message to You Rudy

Damn, I love that song... the entire album was great.

Of the rest, Free Nelson Mandela is my fav, although it came a bit later. Gotta love that wacky dancing.
