Sgt Pepper Knew My Father

Postby zill » Fri Dec 15, 2006 8:45 am

I know the whole Beatles cover thing has been done here before, but...I just unearthed this 1988 compilation from the old cassette box. Sgt Pepper Knew My Father is a bunch of random 80's artists covering the Beatles Sgt Pepper album, with proceeds to charity (Childline). I believe Billy Bragg's version of She's Leaving Home was a UK hit at the time.

Listening to it today, my fave is Getting Better by The Wedding Present, though I'm sure some would argue it is too straight-forward and uninspired.

Anyone have other favourites from this record?

Actually, the Billy Bragg track was the b-side to Wet Wet Wet's "With A Little Help From My Friends", which was a huge hit. So, the Billy Bragg track was a hit by default!
