Concrete Blonde

Postby DevoManiac101 » Fri Dec 22, 2006 7:11 am

Any fans?

'Concrete Blonde' is an amazing LP and very happy it got the remaster treatment back in 2004

"True", "Dance Along The Edge", "Still In Hollywood", "Over Your Shoulder" are my favorite tracks off the LP

Very consistent and catchy! an album that never grows dull in my opinion.

I enjoy their later stuff too, "Joey" is an absolute favorite as well as "Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)"

Yeah that was a great album.

Saw them in a little club back in the day and again when they opened for The Replacements. Lead singer Johnette Napolitano appears to be absolutely possessed when on stage!

Other favorite songs:

Beware Of Darkness
Little Sister
Mexican Moon

I adore Concrete Blonde. "Bloodletting" is my favorite... the anthem of my highschool years. I saw them back in 1994, they were great live. I guess "Joey" was their biggest pop hit?

Johnette Napolitano just played a solo gig at Joe's Pub in NYC. I was sorry to miss it.

Favorite Songs: Little Conversations, Tomorrow Wendy, Roses Grow.

Fan here as well. Finally got the chance to see them live at the Knitting Factory(NYC)a few years back. I was NOT disappointed...and, yes, she did seem to be a woman possessed.

Very much worth it to seek out the EP by her pre-Blonde band Dream 6. Contains the original version of "Rain" which was given a new coat of paint and included on their '94 album 'Mexican Moon'.

Also a fan. I thought "Mexican Moon" was a great album that often is overlooked.

This song was actually my first intro to the band! We always play it whenever someone's having a birthday![8D]

I also have the s/t album, Bloodletting, and Walking in London, and they're all great!

I was high on "Still in Hollywood" back in the late '80s, but nothing else ever really caught my ear. I couldn't stand "Joey." Had a gut feeling they'd never have another hit after that one came straight out of left field.

Caroline (from Bloodletting) is my fave song, then Mexican Moon. IRS (I think) put out a really good compilation in the mid-90's that I still listen to every once in a while.

There are 2 great IRS compilations. 'Recollection' which is all their singles and then 'Still In Hollywood' which features their non-lp tracks.

Although not nearly as massive a "worldwide" hit as "Joey" I do recall "Someday" getting a ton of airplay on mainstream radio back in '92. "Heal It Up" from 'Mexican Moon' didn't really get beyond the modern rock charts.

Oh yeah, "Heal It Up" is also a great song; thanks for the reminder! Highly recommended for those who have not heard it.

I loved "it'll chew you up and spit you out", "Mexican moon," "rain." I still pull out all the albums every once in a while.
