The Church's Steve Kilbey: Interview Thursday

Postby suttonrecords » Tue Jul 31, 2007 4:06 pm

The Church's Steve Kilbey interviewed on WXB 102 this Thursday

As the lead singer of the Church, Steve Kilbey is considered to be one of the pioneers of New Wave and alternative rock, crafting an often darkly atmospheric and stylishly ethereal sound that finally cracked the international charts with "Under the Milky Way" in 1988, the group's biggest U.S. hit. Unknown to Kilbey was the band's popularity in the Philippines during the '80s, years before "Under the Milky Way" was released. The legendary Manila underground radio station WXB 102 had been championing the Church on a daily basis, turning such songs as the '60s-fueled guitar scorcher "The Unguarded Moment" and the dreamy "Already Yesterday" into massive cult hits. Moreover, WXB 102 dug deeper into the Church's catalog, spicing their playlists with such classics as "Bel-Air," "No Explanation," "Maybe These Boys," and "The Shadow Cabinet."

On Thursday, August 2, WXB 102 proudly presents an interview with Kilbey conducted by loyal listener Misael. Listen to Kilbey reveal the origin of the band's name; sing a brief a cappella version of David Bowie's "Moonage Daydream"; and discuss his latest projects. He also professes his affection for WXB 102.

"WXB 102, I love you," Kilbey said.

And the station that dares to be different loves Kilbey as well. Tune in to DJ Naughty Natty beginning at 8 p.m. PST this Thursday to hear the whole interview that Misael conducted for us. And tune in every day to hear Kilbey's station ID for WXB 102.

And special thanks to everyone who made WXB 102 the No. 1 highest-rated station in the dancepunk/80s/New Wave genre at Live365.
