I liked the albums from It's My Life to Laughing Stock. When I first heard their second album, I heard something a little more interesting going on than the usual, more introspective and slightly experimental that was fully developed on their final two albums.
Spirit and Laughing Stock are not great Afternoon music, but at 2AM...yes!
Good B-sides, too - "It's Getting Late in the Evening" (The B to "Life's What You Make It") stands out.
They may have been Synth Pop on the first two, but even as early as the second album you did hear some Prog trying to get out.
I disagree more with those who love the last two albums and dismiss the first two.
