Greatest Irish Band

Postby SuNomi » Sat Jun 10, 2006 4:26 am

"Always after me lucky charms..."
These are the bands who put Ireland on the punk rock map, *note
the Pogues and the Waterboys were London-based bands and are not included here.

I recently saw the re-run of Conan O'Brien's U2 show-they are still great-time wise and product wise they outlasted the Beatles-and to think the whole idea of the band was basically Larry Mullen's. Ya gotta give 'em props.

Cactus World News gets my vote. I loved early U2, until they became this bloated rock parody.

If I could buy my reasoning,
I would pay to lose

I love all of U2 -- early, middle, now

The Undertones nudge U2 just because they were my first concert and we shared a place of birth. Not that they actually had any hometown support. This does not belie the fact that U2 are, like, a gajillion times more important.

I have no idea what happened to Thin Lizzy, but unlike The Virgin Prunes, people actually listened to them in Ireland.

Thin Lizzy were very popular over here.

Ruefrex would of been my choice.

SLF's first 3 albums (Inflammable Material, Nobody's Hero, Hanx!) still burn the roof of my mouth. After that they got wimpy and I lost interest.

The Boomtown Rats first album still kicks me in the nuts as do their early singles. After that they got wimpy and I lost interest aside from "I Don't Like Mondays" which is still one of the greatest songs ever written.

The Undertones first album make me smile and hop around the kitchen. After that all I ever paid attention to was the song "My Perfect Cousin" which is a song I really wish I had written.

U2? Meh... their first 3 albums are OK but not anything I bust out on a regular basis by any means.

Rudi was pretty cool in their day as well.

I can imagine that they outlasted the Beatles because the Beatles came in some 20 years before them.

I am an unashamed U2 fan. In fact, I love their more recent albums more than the early stuff. I'll go as far as to say they are about one of the best bands out there. So, I guess you know who I voted for. [:D]

I have to pass on voting.

I can't decide 'tween the 'Tones, the Rats or SLF.

I lost interest in U2 after 'October' (and saw them at the Hollywood Paladium on that tour).
