Does anyone remember the song 'Uncertain Smile' by The The?
I heard an acoustic version of it the other day and would love to have it! Anyone know where I can find it?

"uncertain emotions bring an uncertain smile"

Great song. The highlight being jools holland's piano solo. Just great.

I have it on my mp3 player. Not the acoustic version though. Do you use soulseek?

Does anyone have any info on what Matt Johnson's up to?I've been to his website a few times and it seemed mostly political. I saw him when he toured for Nakedself in 2000 and it seems he has no desire to put out anymore new music.

Definitely search out the far superior 12" version (the way it was meant to be heard) ...all (exactly) 10:00 minutes of it.....the pedestrian edit can be found on The The's second album 'Soul Mining' easily availble on Amazon....or you could go and steal it....

Jool's did the solo in one take! Accoding to Matt, whom I had the pleasure to interview at CBS records in 1984, as part of the "Soul Mining" LP press junket--a brilliant album, one I must have on my island collection when I'm marooned with only 10 albums! (Gasp!)

That day I also interviewed Bill Nelson for "Vista-Mix" album press junket, and was fortunate to also get free tix from CBS for his performance at Fender's Ballroom in Long beach, California; what a taxing day to interview two superstars in two sessions... too bad they didn't meet each other (Nelson/Johnson), at least I don't think so, and The The wasn't performing a "Soul Mining" tour of the U.S. then either. [:(]

Yeah, I was during music reviews and interviewing bands from 1982 to 1988 for the student newsp[aper at CSU Long Beach--The Union (Daily), and I was involved in the LA ska scene as the manager of No Doubt from 1986-ish to 1989, they played my 24th birthday party, and then John Spence, the lead singer committed suicide, that's my claim to fame so to speak... as well as promoting many gigs as a concert promoter.

I also got to interview some of my idols though, and great bands, like Duran Duran, Ultravox, Devo, Talking Heads, Spandau Ballet, The The (Matt), Bill Nelson, Fishbone, The Untouchables, OMD, Blancmange, and so many others.

In complete agreement. One of the best albums of my youth. The remastered CD goes for $3.99 regularly at Borders here.

Get the CD "45 RPM: The Singles." It has the original 7" and extended versions of "Uncertain Smile" (as well as other rarities). The Soul Mining version of "...Smile" is actually a re-recording, not an edit of the original.

There is a bonus track (Perfect) on the original Soul Mining CD, which is not on the remastered version. Great album

Way cool! I think my most favorite interviews were Devo, Bad Manners, The Nails, and The Talking Heads... [8D] I also had the bands always sign my albums/12"/Singles.

Now, having met The Pixies, don't I look like Charles Thompson (aka: Black Francis/Frank Black)?
