The first time I heard The Unforgettable Fire, and I remember it well, was while watching it's video on TV about 4 years ago and I remember liking it aswell (I didn't downloaded at that time as I wasn't familliar with downloading sites then). Despite having seen the video just a few times and very long ago, I could recall parts of it and the song itself. So, a month and a half ago I searched for the video on YouTube and when I finally saw it I fell in love with the song. I has now become my favourite U2 songs (I've got to admit that I know just their hits, along with Pride, and one of my favourite songs of all time and I listen to it everyday and I'm sure I'll never get tired of it. I love everything about it, specially Bono's vocals, which are sooo heartfelt. It's such a beautiful song.
I'd like to know your opinion on this song.

I haven't listened to a U2 album in its entirety yet but I don't think all their songs are great. Their more recent singles (with the exception of Magnificent) kinda suck so I never felt interested in buying the albums which they belong to. I have considered buying The Unforgettable Fire (the album) because I love both The Unforgettable Fire and Pride, but I haven't done so because I've read that the album it's arty and experimental and I love "big" hooks.
Now I'm interested in The Singles 1980-1990 but I need to check out the few songs I don't know before. And then maybe check their 80s albums on their entirety on YouTube. But it seems that I'll never buy the post-Joshua Tree albums, on the basis that I don't like what I've heard from that period.

Tileboy is right. To that I'd add 'War' and 'Under A Blood Red Sky' and then I'd consider the "song by song" strategy.
'Boy' is probably my favorite album of theirs. 'October' is their most unfocused and meandering album, though arguably most interesting. But both of these albums are from before they hit it really big, and they remain really pure and interesting records, with great songs to boot.
And, in full disclosure, I thought that album 'Unforgettable Fire' was a forgettable bag of crap, a massive departure from their earlier post-punk material. They recovered a bit for subsequent albums, but the fame and bullshit had clearly affected the quality of their creative output. Until the time Unforgettable came out, U2 was my favorite band. After that, they had their moments, but the magic was mostly gone.
'Boy' is probably my favorite album of theirs. 'October' is their most unfocused and meandering album, though arguably most interesting. But both of these albums are from before they hit it really big, and they remain really pure and interesting records, with great songs to boot.

Kidding. Didn't really get into them until "Joshua Tree". Their most cohesive and arguably, best album. Also the one that really put them on the map.
I echo the sentiment about "October", "Boy" and "War". There's nothing like the energy and excitement of a great band when they are young and aspiring.
I will argue that the songs;

"Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of"
"Walk On"
"In A Little While"[/b]
from 2000's [b]"All That You Can't Leave Behind"[/b] album
and
[b]"Yahweh"
"Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"
"A Man and a Woman"[/b]
from 2004's [b]"How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb"[/b]
are as good as any the band has ever done.

I've heard this songs from All That You Can't Leave Behind (with the exception of In A Little While) and, while not bad, they are not in the same league as their 80s stuff. I think they lack the passion that made most of their 80s singles so special. The same with Somtimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. It seems that now it's all about the bussiness. but maybe I should check out the other songs, I might like them.

I agree their last album was certainly nothing to write home about. But upon hearing a song like [b]"A Man And A Woman"[/b] for the first time, knowing nothing else about it, I think you'd be hard pressed to tell me if it was a lost track from 1981, something from the 90s or perhaps an outtake from their last studio session.
I know it's subjective but if you don't hear "passion" here I don't know what else to say:

I finally saw these videos on YouTube. A Man And A Woman, while not bad, didn't impressed me much. Walk On was better (it might have been post 9/11 context, which added emotion to the performance) but I still prefer the singles from the 80s.
