I couldn't get into clubs until my senior year in college in 1989. Then I started going to Neo and Cluib 950 in Chicago.

They started doing a great 80's night at Club 950 in 1994, until they closed in 1999. Now they have it at Neo on Thursday nights from 10-4.

Does any one know the name of a club out east that was in an airport hanger? I think it was in one of the Hamptons. I saw ABP there in 87 or 88. I would just drive and would always find a place but I can't remember all of the names. That's how I stumbled upon Heartbeat after leaving The New Community Cinema (They had great movies there). I also ended up at the Salty Dog once that way. Boy did I get a lot of stares.

Anyone remember The Mission on 5th between A & B in Manhattan? I used to spin there Friday nights. Dave Kendall was on Thursdays, I believe and William (guitarist from Ministry (r.i.p.) was on Sundays. Saturdays were a floater night. Sometimes me, sometimes Dave, sometimes Brian from TVT. What fun.

Damn! The mission. I loved that place. I remember the wall with the pictures of pipes and a boiler with a guy in it. Do you remember the band that the manager tried to start up(help out not play with)? The singer was Fred Shreck,I forgot the bass players name(nice guy), and a girl that wore spider web clothes. They were called the ancients. I was good freinds with them so I went to mission alot. I lost touch with everyone and always wondered what happened to them. The lead singer was very talented!

It would be so fun to talk about our clubs like the Mab, or the Stone , Off Browdway, Keystone Berkeley, Keystone Palo Alto, Berkeley Square, The Omni, The I Beam, The Paladium, Stargaze, Lips, Primary, 15 Minutes, Twilight Zone, One Step Byond, the Kenel Club, X's New Wave Annex.... I could go on and on and on. Plan and simple if we had more Bay Area posters on this board we would easaly demonstrate to the East Coasters and So Calers that we had the best New Wave scene in the western hemisphere. And that the Quake really was a better radio station than KROQ. Remember we had Jed the Fish first.

I seem to remember something about Rob and Dianne, the owners, trying to start a band. I recall them being really fond of a lead singer from this band who was originally from their hometown. The guy played in a group that did really well at the New Music Seminar. That's all I remember with regard to that. There were a few other start up bands around at that time too. John Carruthers (formerly of Siouxsie and the Banshees) had a project on Island, I believe, and was around quite a bit. Then my boyfriend at the time used to play drums in a band called The New Creatures. Lots and lots and lots of music and musicians.

As for the "girl that wore spider web clothes"... ahh... that's kind of like the time I went up to the door guy at Irving Plaza at the Skinny Puppy show and asked, "Have you seen my boyfriend? Black hair, messed up jeans, black leather jacket?" :::grin:::

You couldn't swing a dead cat in The Mission without hitting someone wearing something spider webby.

You got it. Rob was the owner. I think Dianne might be the web girl. The name of the group Fred was in before was called Shoot the Doctor. I used to promote them. They were a great band. But the lead singer was the great talent. I wonder if he stayed in music? He should have, he was talented. Isn't it funny how now we are parents? Me too, I have 2 girls. Back in the day, I didn't think I would make it past 30. Thanks for the memories![:D]

Shoot The Dr....I'd seen them open for The Creatures at the Ritz(NYC)in '90. Not very memorable. A few members(Shreck, Carruthers)from that band then formed Crush and had a minor modern-rock hit in '93 with, uhh.....I think it was called "Can't Stop The Rain"??

And, yes, I too can cofirm that Aldo's burned to the point of being unsalvageable. Shame, I was comtamplating going last friday too.

Justjohn, how do you know or remember so much about shoot the dr.? They did do crush but I didn't know anyone would remember that. Do you know them?I went to the creatures show also. I didn't think they played as crush out at all. I have the music they recorded but it's from the studio. Either I know you, or you have a great memory!

Hey Phillyidol...

You were at that same Creatures show??

I just have a good memory concerning all things music. My first and last exposure to Shoot The Dr. was that Creatures performance and recall thinking their guitarist looked awfully familiar. Go figure.

A few years later a video for one of their tunes was on regular rotation on MTV's 120 Minutes as well as 106.3(Modern Rock at the Jersey Shore)before that radio channel went down an oil slickened decline. Anyway...same scenario. I recognized the guitarist in the video as being Carruthers.....did a bit of research on the band then and learned Crush were born from the ashes of Shoot The Dr. and The Ancients.
