Oh well I had to go back to the original reference to get what you two were joking about at my expense.

Than I had to remember what was funny when I was in fourth grade.

Fat jokes are so funny especially for fat slobs on the internet!!!

Whatever. She's a cow. Talented, but still a cow.

But more importantly .... You made it as far as fourth grade? I'm impressed and I must admit, more than a little surprised.

Several of you stole my thunder. As soon as I (belatedly) saw the topic of this post the first name in my head was NIRVANA.

I wonder what would have happened if Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself. I have a feeling Nirvana would simply be a musical footnote today.

I like Nirvana (mostly Bleach and Incesticide) and I think people don't give Kurt enough credit for his songwriting and Novoselic and Grohl were a damn good rhythm section. Still, I can see why many would consider them overrated. They were a decent enough band that received far too many accolades. I don't think they were that influential (certainly not to anyone worth a damn) and the whole Cobain as voice of a generation thing was ridiculous. But I do think they would have been more than a mere footnote if only for helping to open the door for other alternative bands, both good and bad. I think a lot of the anti-Nirvana sentiment is just due to people being sick of all the media overkill.

A comment in re: the original post.

I don't think anybody outside of the whole fandom of New Wave and perhaps some former teeny-boppers rates Duran Duran highly. They've pretty much been always critically reviled.

Not a judgement, just an observation.

Actually I was reacting to the Post 'Favourite Duran Duran Song For Today' and other
such posts around the sight.

I find listening to certain Duran Duran songs similar to listening to Happy Birthday. Overplayed so much that i'm shocked that anyone gets anything out of it.

Critics always have the attitude "This is Duran Durans' mature record", ever since Notorious. Just the same as they say "Every new David Bowie record is a return to his greatness" than a year later everyone says the album is shit.

I do understand what your saying but in obvious circles (allmusic, rolling stone, etc..) there reviews are really quite good. There concerts sell out where great bands reunite and no one cares.

There are actually quite a few overrated bands. I originally put down NIrvana, Beatles and Sex Pistols as the 3 most overrated bands in history, but I later added Bob Dylan and Radioheads to the list. Now as I think about it, I will put Pearl Jam on the list as well and will probably add more later.

The irony of so many people proclaiming that all these guys are overrated...they're now UNDERRATED! [8D]

Having listened to Endgames - Building Beauty I would have to say them.

Sure, they released some cracking singles like "Waiting for Another Chance" and "First Last for Everything", but over an LP they are rubbish, just a load of crap funk done by people who shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it.

Should of stuck to synthpop lads, you weren't too bad at that.
