Hey justjohn, Small world! Yeah I was at the creatures show. I felt like a big deal because I was on the guest list(like that is so hard). But I was good friends with the drummer also named john. Fred Shreck was a great talent but didnt have alot of luck. I never knew of the video. I wonder if its on the net somewhere? He was a really nice guy and always invited me to the shows. I also was in the studio for another project"atomic drop". They broke up and I fell out of that scene. I always wished him luck and success. It sounds like I'm a huge fan but they were just friends. Thanks for the news john. We were in the same crowd it looks!

It's amazing that there's absolutely no info about Fred Shrek.....beyond the Trouser Press Reference Guide write-up. Guess he's not doing anything enough to warrant a website....or even a small blurb on the net.

Anyway....the newest club I've been to in the past month is Traxx Lounge in Passaic, NJ....which is where most of the Aldos Hideaway crowd has migrated to since the place burned down. Didn't like the venue at all. Mare Idol was spot on with the not so favorable description of her experience there as well. I forget if that's in this thread.

City Garden's - Trenton Kennedy's, Billy Idol, FOSG
The East Side Club - Philly FOSG
Ripley Music Hall - South Street (now Tower Records) - Eurythmics, Joan Jett, Berlin - just the friggen coolest place in the world!

Best Road Trip Club - NYC The Pepermint Lounge (the old place as I understand it) The Professionals

We have a monthly night here in Toronto called "Panic" that is a lot of fun. Great music, 2 rooms and 80' video games (Pac man, etc.) and movies on giant screens. The 2nd room is usually a themed room ie: Curefest, The Smiths Vs. Morrissey, Pet Shop Boys Vs. Erasure, Women of the 80's... Good times!

Does anyone remember a very hot guy named Dave who went to Malibu and 007 way back when? I didn't know him personally, but he was in awesome shape and very hot. Man I hate coming in at the end or the middle of a thread. But in the same token you guys are killing me with all the great memories!

Though I loved Spit, Malibu will always be the one closest to my heart. Too many great great memories.

Damn I miss Han. There was nothing like walking up to the bar and her having your favorite drink waiting for you as you get there. Towards the end of Malibu's run she was at the top bar and would see us coming.

Hey Bird, does she still do standup? I was on her mailing list till I moved.

I started at Heartbeats until I found Spit. Then the Bu Paris Spize and 007's depending on the night of the week. I also did go to Luxe, cause well, there wasn't anywhere else to go!

Here in VA I've been to the 9:30 club to see a couple of shows. Cool place but it doesnt compare to Malibu. Anyone remember DRE day? Or catching the Ramones at Malibu before it closed? Ahh the memories!

Dave Kendall came over from the UK on a work study program and landed a job at MTV in 1986 as the producer/writer for a new show- 120 Minutes- after being introduced to MTV's Laurie Zaks and Judy McGrath by Saturday Night Live music co-ordinator Michael Bramon. Bramon is Laurie's cousin. Kendall eventually became a VJ for 120 Minutes. Bramon and Kendall became good friends.

In 1987 Bramon recorded Ru Paul's Star Booty record after being introduced to Ru, and Ru's talented producers, The Pop Tarts (Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato), by Kendall. Bramon and Kendall became roommates in NYC's West Village in 1988.

Soonafter, Kendall introduced Bramon to bassist Legion, who together started a band called Wildtribe. Bramon was given John Carruthers' phone number by Killing Joke co-founder and drummer Paul Ferguson. Ferguson was in Warrior Soul on Geffen Records at the time. In June 1989, Bramon flew John Carruthers over from the UK (who had just been thrown out of the Banshees) and Bramon and guitarist Carruthers renamed Wildtribe- "Pleasurehead." Legion was the bass player. Bramon was the singer. Carruthers moved into the apt w Bramon, replacing Kendall as his roommate.

Paul Ferguson joined Pleasurehead formally in late 1989 and the band signed a record deal with Island Records in January 1990. Hugo Burnham, former amazing drummer from Gang Of Four, was the band's A&R man at Island. They recorded at Electric Lady studios in NYC. Kurt Cobain was given a cassette of the band's music and subsequently converted Nirvana's sound to that if Pleasureheads.
Rumour has it that Kendall introduced, or was responsible for Courtney Love first meeting Kurt.

Pleasurehead then left Island Records and renamed itself Crush. In November 1991, Crush signed to the Atlantic Records label Atco-East/West.

Ferguson, Bramon, Carruthers and Kendall all used to hang out regularly at the Mission Bar (now called the Ace Bar). Rob Sacher was the owner (Rob later became the owner of Luna Lounge- and still is) and is the person responsible for the discovery of The Strokes.
He is an AMAZING GUY.

Bramon eventually departed Crush for another band called Head. He was replaced by Fred Schrek (Rob's friend who was the singer in The Ancients).

Kendall and Bramon had a DJ show called Wicked in 1997.
