Isn't there a Guilty Pleasues thread for this kind of embarrassingly painful confession?

PS I want my album back. I'm willing to trade you my Tiffany poster for it.

Love,

You've got a bad case of classic denial!

Well as long as we're into True Confessions, I have to admit to liking The Outfield, John Denver and even Barry Manilow but I'm sick like that.

I like a few tracks from the Outfield's first album. I'd actually buy it if I ever came across it for about $5.00.

As far as being embarassed about something, since I live in a society that thought acid wash jeans was something really utterly cool (which I never owned nor wore or even wanted to), I don't think I need to be embarassed by liking Glass Tiger.

You come from a country that produced Men Without Hats, the Crash Test Dummies, Red Rider and Bryan Adams. Compared to that, stool like Glass Tiger is equivalent to Led Zeppelin. So of course you're not embarrassed.

Wait, you're using such legends as 54-40, Hawksley Workman, Howie Beck, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Ron Sexsmith, The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Daniel Lanois, Raffi, Max Webster, Oscar Peterson and Carole Pope as examples of Canadia's incredible contribution to world culture?

That's not fair! We cannot possibly hope to compete with these immortal juggernauts of talent.

We surrender.
And Rush
Vastly overrated prog-rock dinosaurs.
and Neil Young
Barely competent songwriter. Voice shot. Shouldn't sing.
Joni Mitchell,
Sensitive-singer-songwriter; writing clunky rhymes about Woodstock also makes her a hippie.
Broken Social Scene,
Generic indie.
Blue Rodeo
A band full of Mellencamps.
Bruce Cockburn,
The canadian Sting (not a compliment).
The Tragically Hip
Wanted to be U2; tried and utterly failed..
The Dears,
Corporate post-rock.
The Arcade Fire,
Flavor of the month.
The Rheostatics,
Sang songs about hockey and Saskatchewan. Cynical attempt to appeal to nationalist pride.
Sloan,
Cure for insomnia.
54-40,
Covered by Hootie & the Blowfish. Enough said.
Gordon Lightfoot,
"As big freighters go, it was bigger than most." Bad lyricist.
Hawksley Workman,
A one-man hype machine.
Tempus Fugit,
Soulless canadian garage-rock.
Howie Beck,
Sensitive male singer-songwriter. "Play us at work!"
Jane Sibery,
Nice looks. Bad music. You can't win 'em all.
Barenaked Ladies,
Out of all the bad bands you listed, they're perhaps the worst; certainly the most musically offensive.
Mary Margaret O'Hara,
Yet another sensitive singer/songwriter. They're a dime a dozen up there.
The Guess Who,
Horrible AOR dreck. For people who think that Aerosmith is too harsh and real.
Voivod,
A bunch of Metal boneheads who think that Spinal Tap was a documentary that happened in real time.
The Band,
Levon Helm--the heart and soul of the Band--was American.
Ron Sexsmith,
See "Mary Margaret O'Hara"
Rufus Wainwright,
Both a sensitive-singer-songwriter and a painfully bad lyricist
Sarah McLachlan,
Music for women and sensitive males with ponytails, wire-rimmed glasses and sweater-vests.
Spirit of the West,
Regresso-rock.
The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir,
Glorified high-school garage band. Painfully, pseudo-clever names are always a warning sign.
Godspeed You Black Emperor,
Tuneless crap by ideologically-retarded frenchies.
D.O.A,
A poor man's Black Flag that didn't know when to quit/self-destruct, like all good punk bands do.
BTO,
"That's BTO; they were Canada's answer to ELP. Their big hit was TCB." Awful, overplayed album rock.
Cowboy Junkies,
Most notable song was a cover. Never a good sign.
Daniel Lanois,
Better as an assistant producer. Not ready for prime-time
Raffi,
He might be a big hit with the juice-box, 'nilla wafer, nap at noontime crowd, but using him as an example of a good canadian artist is a bad, bad sign.
Martha and the Muffins,
A canadian attempt to clone the B-52s gone tragically wrong. Horrible name, bad lyrics and simplistic melodies.
Max Webster,
Rush proteges--enough said.
Oscar Peterson,
An anomaly; most likely developed talent from being the only black man in the whitest country on Earth.
Carole Pope,
Pure hype. Much like FGTH, hype, provocative lyrics and outrageous live shenangians do not a talented artist make.
The Pursuit of Happiness
A poor-man's Smithereens.

BTW - Any chance we could get a list of your top 20 artists so we can make fun of them [:p]
Sure. I can take it; I'll even save you the trouble of making fun of them.
Echo & the Bunnymen
Humorless post-punk with a really bad name; beaten by U2 at their own game.
Tears For Fears
Only one of many "Don't Ask Don't Tell" bland synth-duos.
Gary Numan
Wanted to be Bowie. Relevant for about five minutes before wearing out his welcome.
Devo
Clownish gimmick band riding a shaky concept into the ground; the new-wave Kiss.
The Beatles
Horrible lyrics and some of the worst drumming of all time.
David Bowie
More hype than substance. Once he stopped doing blow, he went off the tracks.
The Smiths
Aimed low, cynically wrote their songs to appeal to the disaffected, alienated, "I'm so lonely" teenage market, and exploited it for years.
Wire
"I'm sick of musicians saying, 'I don't care what you wanna hear, I'm gonna play whatever I want 'cause I'm an artist.' You're an artist? Paint my house, bitch!"--Gene Simmons
X
The punk-rock Fleetwood Mac. Disastrous attempt to go mainstream in 1985.
Garbage
A Romeo Void ripoff, top to bottom--with the "benefit" of "stripped-down" production.
Magazine
Awesome guitars and keyboards ruined by one of the worst singers on the planet; also one of the ugliest.
Kraftwerk
Crypto-nazi krauts who were more in love with "fiddling with their synths" rather than putting out songs with tunes and melodies
Cocteau Twins
Muddled, untuned guitars played over the sound of a scottish Yoko Ono.
Goldfrapp
Her music is crap; however, she was wise enough to include provocative album covers, in the ultimately correct belief that if you toss one off while listening to her music, it will sound like Kraftwerk.
Fear
Juvenile attempt at non-PC humor over generic punk.
The Gang of Four
Self-righteous commie hacks who fell apart after their first album.
Roxy Music
Egomaniacal lead singer; regressed from rock to disco.
Siouxsie & the Banshees
So "punk" that the lead singer got a nosejob when their freshness date started to expire. Pseudo-goth.
The B-52s
Useless novelty act.
Helium
Not the Jesus & Mary Chain, but a not-so-incredible simulation.
