Greatest Keyboardist in New Wave

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

My vote goes to Gillian Gilbert of New Order.

No one could say she was the greatest technically, what she did play was untouchable.

Hmmm...

I think a distinction should be made between rock/group keyboardists--your Steve Nieves, your Dave Greenfields, your Jools Hollands--who aren't necessarily the focus of the group, but rather a component, and your primarily synth-based artists like Thomas Dolby and the like. They're two different brands, in my opinion.

oh and did anyone ever hear martin gore play moonlight sonata on the b-side of little 15? if that is not testament to martin's key tickling ability, i do not know what is.

Rob Fisher of Naked Eyes. A classicaly trained pianist who also got a degree in electronics. Acording to an interview I heard he played all the keyboards on the first album before computers and sequencers.

I'll go with Thomas Dolby only because Jimmy Destri wasn't on the list![;)]

True that is a good point.

BTW did name your NWO name after the Robert De Niro character in Mean Steets?

I just noted something--where the fuck is Dave Formula?! "Definitive Gaze" has some of the greatest keyboard work in the entire NW period, IMO.

Hell, yeah! I was just watching a live footage of that song a few weeks back and he's really amazing![:I]
