What's your #1 album of all time?

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

Really like all Payolas myself, but I agree, Hammer On A Drum is almost perfect. Prisoners is one of the best songs ever IMO. What an absolute shame that only some best-ofs have seen the light of day on CD for this great canadian band.

That's really hard, but I go with my instant reaction. The first album that came to mind was Daft Punk's Alive 1997. I can play that shit in a loop two or three times, easy[8D] Of course, if I gotta narrow it down to New Wave, MY #1 favourite album is Black Celebration.

An even bigger shame is that "Hammer" never made the charts here. The American division of A&M screwed it up every step of the way. I mean, four singles in Canada; only one in the U.S. Is the one they single out the biggest hit in Canada? Nope, the smallest. "Where Is This Love" gets sent to MTV, but isn't (as far as I've ever been able to tell) commercially-available as a 7", and the non-release of "Never Said I Loved You" -- which would have surely sold the album -- seems to have been done for the express purpose so that it wouldn't sell.

And then if that isn't enough, they go and do it all over again with "Here's the World for Ya." Yeah, so it's not a great album by any means, but it did have one great song -- "Stuck in the Rain" -- and they ignore it in favor of dross like "It Must Be Love." Stupid.

Please folks-can we all just get along? I mean lawzy-I've gotten into a scrape on the messgae board hither and yon-but in the end-we usually have a group hug--

as for #1 album......Well, I'm a Clash Fan and London Calling is one of those "Citizen Kane" type albums-I mean a big statement done in rock 'n roll-and since we're talking about kinda the new wave era-it seemed appropriate

Either Blondie's Plastic Letters or Parallel Lines. I suppose Parallel Lines edges itself into #1 simply for the awesome trifecta of Hanging on the Telephone, Pretty Baby, and Will Anything Happen. Those might be my favorite new wave/post punk whatever you want to call it songs of all time.

Other than that - maybe the Motels album "Careful." I could listen to that over & over.

Someone here knows José Gonzalez??? Very good!!! He's one of the coolest options outside the almost uniform world of Next Wave bands.

My list:
Tommy- The Who
Led Zeppelin IV- Led Zeppelin
Dark side of the moon- Pink Floyd
Zenyatta mondatta- The Police (well... it was like the main course of my musical diet for so long)
Disintegration- The Cure
Unknown pleasures- Joy Division
Out of time- REM (who everybody here hates [:p])
The unforgettable fire- U2
And I stop here cause if not.... this will turn into a 20 albums list.

My favorite album of all time is Juliana Hatfield's Become What You Are. It speaks to me on so many levels. Songs like Feeling Massachusets and I Got No Idols blow me away.

The sun never sets for those who ride into it.

Probably the first Clash album (the British version), although Television's "Marquee Moon" and the Replacements' "Tim" are pretty close.
