Mike, SOTW is the first thing I click on every morning, just to check. It's what started it all for me. Thanks so much. It's simply mind-boggling how many obscure/under-rated songs there are out there.[:)]

Tom, I wish I could say all these tunes were from my own collection but I owe a huge debt of gratitude to my friends, the masterminds behind the MFV series: Steve "Spaz" Schnee and Jim "Eno" Roe. Spaz is a true monster when it comes to preserving vinyl ... he's recorded well over 500 titles to CD-R. While a good chunk of the past Songs of the Week were songs I either had in my collection or I remembered from back then, at least half of them were discovered and selected by me as I listened to Obscure80's titles. That's why I'd like Spaz to give me a list of some his personal favorites ... he knows a lot of these albums better than I could hope to and he has a keen ear for good tunes as well.

Wow. Nice to see I wasn't the only one who looks for the SOTW.

Thanks so much Mike. I know you're deeply entrenched in this site and may forget, but keep in mind the person discovering this site for the 1st time (I know I visited this site for months before getting into the Message Boards in '03). They will probably go to the SOTW and also the 'Discovering the Rarities' sections first...

...I remember thinking when I first came to the site how different YOUR interpretation of 'new wave' was from my own. But good new wave is good new wave and your site introduced me to a whole 'nother slew of records/bands that I never had heard of (and I'm no slouch, I had a pretty good collection before I came here). This site definitely broadened my definition of what could be called new wave.

Just think - this site is probably the best on-line source for information on the only music that matters. Your SOTW's are building a history of your perception of that music - something you can pass on to others - - just like members here do with their recommendations, posts, etc.

Thanks again Mike.

That sounds awesome. I really like having these expert picks. We can dump all the mp3s we want on eachother, but I still consider these to be sorta the master selections. [:p]

I'll see if I can lure Spaz back to the board for an occasional comment, observation or two. He's has an amazingly insightful perspective on the whole spectrum of new wave, punk and power pop. As some of you know, he write occasional reviews for the AllMusic Guide. He's also outrageously funny and quite an impressionist -- reading his posts doesn't do him justice.

Hey

Mike told me if I'd post something to this site, I'd get some free nudie pix from some of the hotties here!

Or maybe that was the New Wave Hookers site he was talking about? Heck, I knew it was new wave something. I probably got it wrong!

Anyway, how's it going everyone?

Especially you hotties!!!!

Though I started getting into the Message Boards just few weeks ago, I first visited this site in Feb. 2001 and since then I've checked the SOTW every week to discover incredible bands I had never heard of and to find songs I had long forgotten.

After seeing how almost all the similar sites dedicated to New Wave and Obscure 80's songs in the net have closed down through the past years, it's great to see things haven't changed here.

Mike & collaborators, you're doing a really good job keeping this site going.
Thanks a lot for your dedication and all those wonderful songs!

LOL!!! At least Coogan...oops, Panorama didn't post some lame bit of Seinfeld dialog. Those always grab my attention. Just ignore him Tom.
