Way, way, way back in time, I got the "Only A Lad" 4-track 10" Ep. *That* brings back lots of memories of my first ride of the new wave!

Well, it's been more than two decades since I've been collecting NEW WAVE materials. I may say my first ever batch of NEW WAVE VINYL RECORDS that I bought way back 1983 were:

U2- WAR
THE THE- SOUL MINING
DURAN DURAN- SEVEN AND THE RAGGED TIGERS

They are all still in good conditions after all these years. I also missed those days when VINYL RECORDS and CASETTE TAPES are on the RECORD STORES.[;)]

[:D] Since having joined here at NWO, I have listed to more music I haven't been listining to in the recent past, and have made some cool CD-Rs for the car to jam down the highway to, sounds like a thread needs to start! Me,being almost 46 I am an original punk/new wave fan.I often read arguments on were the lines between punk and newwave meet and my opinion gets clouded. If I had to pick my first new wave lp I bought I would say probably Devo,s We are not Men.The others such as 999,Stranglers,Clash,xtc, etc were all rock acts in some form or other and got swept up in the punk juggernaut. My humble thought.

This would have been around 94, probably 'Dare' by the Human League and 'The Luxury Gap' by Heaven 17. Bought a few early 80's compos at the time as well.

That's because it wasn't nearly the first thread on the subject. Even Angie herself started other similar threads like this one...

Here's a really seminal early thread...

Thanks Blir; I couldn't find those. Those are what I had in mind. But I do think it is cool reading others' first exposures.

Gee I can't remember my very first New Wave album. I guess it depends on how you classify new wave.

I think it was Deaf School's double album 2nd Honeymoon/Don't Stop the World in 1977.

Or it may have been the early Sparks releases from 74-75.

If you place the start of New Wave about '79, then I'd have to say The Korgis self titled and/or Shoes - Present Tense.

Do you remember that awakening? Your first few purchases?
... well the first awakening would be seeing Kraftwerk performing Autobahn around '75 as a kid on a science programme in the UK called Tomorrow's World, dressed like middle managers from some mittel-European corporation like Krupp Steel and making this otherworldly noise with their homebuilt synths. The first actual purchases on new wave musical stylings would be John Foxx's first solo effort Metamatic which is still a firm favourite all these years later, the 7" of Burning Car and the 7" of Spandau Ballet's Cut A Long Story Short. There was also a compilation album called Space Invaders that I asked for Xmas which had a great but bizarro assortment of early synth stuff like OMD's Messages, YMO's Theme From Space Invaders, Hawkwind's Silver Machine and even Sheila B Devotion's Spacer ha hah!
