Naked Eyes

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

A friend handed me some LP box sets of "Dick Clark American Top 40" radio shows from early 1984 to burn onto disc for him. Two of the shows featured :30 ads for Dr. Pepper with a song performed by Naked Eyes! There was also one with Tommy Tutone and another with Irene Cara. Weird!

I saw Naked Eyes (well, Pete Burns and a backup band) a couple of months ago opening for ABC (well, Martin Fry and a backup band...oh, and original drummer David Palmer!) and they were great. Pete doesn't look like he's aged all that much (still sporting the same haircut), and even the new songs sounded decent. When he went into "Always Something There To Remind Me," he asked for women in the audience to come up on stage and dance to the song. My date jumped right up and joined in! It was pretty cool.

Yeah I saw Pete Byrne and the new incarnation of Naked Eyes earlier in the year in Philadelphia and they were great! He's a very charismatic fellow on stage. The songs sounded tight.

You can soon listen to an interview with Pete Byrne done by DJ Robert Drake of WXPN (88.5) in Philadelphia here. It's not up yet but it will be, keep checking!
Well in my opinion, Naked Eyes is a very commercial sounding band so I don't see much difference between Promises, Promises and Always Something There To Remind Me which is anyway a cover.
China Crisis?... They do have a number of accessible songs so I guess Love Will Tear Us Apart, Joy Division would have been a better illustration for your intended topic.[:D]

Ah, yes. LWTUA does fit the bill. But I guess this topic will be subjective. I really don't know if it's the production or the over-all mood of the song but if nobody told me Promises, Promises was NE, I would never have thought of it. As for CC, maybe it's because it's only Wishful Thinking that never wears out on me. Black Man Ray, Some People I Know and the rest are good but I won't listen to them twice in one day ... by choice.

Naked Eyes is one of my favorite mainstream bands of the 80s. 100% pure New Wave, i love it !. It's a pity to know that Rob Fisher has passed away, he was one of the best keyboardists of the 80s.
Anyway, you would probably like the songs "Sacrifice" and "No Flowers Please", along with "When The Lights Go Out" are my favorites !

They were one of my favorite groups from the 80s. My favorite tracks were:

(What)in the name of Love
Always Something there to remind me
Promises Promises

(the popular mainstream hits [:D])

I like always something there to remind me, but it's kind of wore off due to years of severe overplay. Promises Promises is a lot better. And I absolutely love What In The name of love and when the lights go out. Too bad radio will never play those two songs. I mean they were hits too.

A Very Hard Act to Follow might make it on to my recording tomorrow at XM satellite radio, I have one hour's worth of songs to pick and one Naked Eyes song might make it. Not sure yet. Impressed that people here mentioned No Flowers Please, Voices in my Head and Burning Bridges, What in the Name of Love. All great songs no matter how sick we all got of hearing Always Something T.T.R.M. and Promises, Promises on the radio back in the early 80s. Remember how often the video for Promises came on MTV back then? Literally every 5 minutes, about as often as Rio by Duran. [xx(]
