hey I like White Lion...[:D]

but it seems to me this show just talks about already overplayed metal/rock bands... not having seen much of it, somehow I doubt they discuss lesser known but great bands like Pretty Maids, TNT or Bonfire for example... let alone something even more obscure...

don't base the entire metal community as being more open simply because the guys on That Metal Show talk about Judas Priest and White Lion without blinking an eye. They're job is to cover the whole spectrum of Metal, just as it would be for a 'new wave' show. Look at reviews, say on amazon, for various metal bands, and you'll see the same amount of ridicule and hate for bands who aren't 'really' the real deal just like you do here on this site.

Not to mention, there are people, both in the new wave and metal communities who, you know, actually grew up and act like adults when someone likes a band they don't, and there are even those who've learned to appreciate bands they may have scoffed at back in the day. Obviously not everyone (which you can tell by some of the attitude that gets tossed around these boards), but there really ARE more open-minded people who are into new wave but understand that they aren't the final authority on what is and isn't acceptable music for others to like...

I wonder if the aging New Wavers and Punkers are too cool for school for a show like that. BUUUUUT I personally would watch it religiously... That Metal Show is kinda cool. At this point I watch anything retro related.

I think it is kind of cool how they pay respect to people like Ronnie James Dio and others like Glenn Hughes for their 70's contributions to the genre.

Didn't 120 Minutes come back or something like that? It is hard to get excited to find anything on MTV because of the constant rotation of shitty reality shows.

I had a very odd experience a couple of years ago--a friend convinced us to go to an 80s new wave retro club. We walk in, and all the people I used to see at clubs in the 80s were there, still wearing combat boots, leather jackets and ripped jeans, and with dyed black hair (in many cases, less of it), and dancing the same way to the same songs. It was almost...disturbing.
