Depeche Mode new album Delta Machine

Well I think it is a pretty decent album. Problem is there are some great songs and some really bad songs (i.e "Angel" and "Soft Touch/Raw Nerve" and "Goodbye") It is probably the most experimental album they have done, it is by far superior to the Sounds of the Universe. It is strange to say but all of the songs that Dave Gahan wrote are all excellent especially the superior "Broken" probably my favorite track on the album - and "Should Be Higher". This time it is some of Martin Gore's stuff that misses the mark. True the bonus Cd of 4 tracks are essential they are all excellent.

After my first sit through I was quite disappointed. You can throw the first 5 tracks away and improve the album immensely. Very minimal and the drum tracks are annoying to the point they distract you from the rest of the songs. A few more listens later and I notice too many songs with "soul" in the lyrics. It was the #1 album in the US the week it debuted, beating out DIDO and many other new releases. The second week it dropped down to #22. It's now my least favorite Depeche Mode album, below A Broken Frame (this will change as my list changes all the time).

I whole-heartedly agree with you. Since when it did become OK for pop music to NOT have a melody? In my humble opinion, "Walking in my shoes" was the last great Depeche Mode single. Interestingly enough, Depeche Mode might be one of the few acts that emerged in the 80s that have actually crossed over to another generation. Can't say that about bands like Duran Duran (although these guys are far superior - especially today!)

On what chart? It debuted on the Billboard 200 at #6.

Duran still around? I have not heard anything relevant from them since '93 (ordinayworld) are they playing stadiums like DM does around thr globe or state fair and small 80's club [:D]

Never heard it on the alternative radio? was that on the timbaland album?
But anyways Comparing Duran to DM is like Monkees to the Beatles. Duran plays 80's club while DM tours Arena around the globe.

No need to be defensive, If DM keeps putting out albums, odds are they too may eventually create something interesting. Til then, there are plenty of myopic fans to keep them going.

The problem is DM are not New Wave (since the late 80's) anymore and will continue NOT to make new wave music.. Never the less, they're still massive and relevant to this day, hugely influencial to the current Alternative scene unlike there 80's contemporaries who are stuck in the past and tryin to re-live there 80's glory days.. DM number one cult band in the world [;)]
