That synthesizer "meow" sound that starts out Human League's "Love Action" launches a couple billion 1981 memories every time I hear it...

Here in the Philippines, new wave fans and non-new wave fans are very much familiar with the intro to the Care's Chandeliers... but not all of us credit the intro to the same song because of some friggin' copycats.

I'm so glad somebody mentioned Shona Laing.

When I think of the 80s, I think of these starts because they are the ones that bring a sense of nostalgy although I was born in 1987:
"Blue Monday" or "Bizarre Love Traingle" by New Order.. it's pretty obvious why
"Close to me" and "Lullaby" by The Cure
"Cities in dust" by Siouxsie and the banshees.. super start, it sounds like a tap or a fountain to me.
"Rio" and "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran
"Never let me down again" and "People are people" by Depeche Mode
"Don't you want me?" by Human League
"Take on me" by A-ha.... this is a totally 80s start!!!
"Shout" and "Everybody wants to rule the world" by Tears For Fears
"Such a shame" by Talk Talk....... ppsss, great start!!!
"Kayleigh" by Marillion (wow!!! a not NW choice came to my head)
"Don't stand so close to me" by The Police (such an amazing song, too bad that it brings me bad memories)
"Burning down the house" and "And she was" by Talking Heads
"So far away" by Dire Straits
"I will follow" by U2
"Like a virgin" by Madonna
"Sometimes" and "A little respect" by Erasure
"Sweet dreams (are made of this)" by Eurythmics.... have to say, that is one of the most famous starts ever.

Name That Tune: The Speed Round!

Okay, not really, but I did gather most of the suggestions plus tossed in a bunch more killer intros and made this Megamix of Microsnippets just as a reminder of how many great freaking intros these songs had. Nothing obscure, most even frightfully mainstream. Feel free to blurt out what they all are here if your interested and don't let this post prevent you from adding more to the list.

I think there's there's about 75 songs but I did't keep track of what they were. They're roughly alphabetical for awhile then it's a gimmish toward the end. Just right-click to download:

Cheers...I'm off to San Francisco for the week! [:p]

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Just Can't Get Enough". It's one of my least favorite Depeche Mode songs - but that intro has come to represent new wave.

For me the intro that gets me out of my seat is the strummy intro to "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

Blondie - Heart of Glass - the weird electronic percussion sound that starts out the song before it kicks in - what the hell was that???

I would have suggested Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water...but I was afraid someone may kick me in the groin...[}:)]

I was never the world's biggest Men At Work fan, but I always liked the percussion intro to "Down Under."

The bottle clanking percussion on The Cure's 'Love Cats' was pretty cool too, but I think my favorite would have to be the opening saxaphone on The Psychedelic Fur's "Heartbeat."
