Back from long ago (hello) to add "Liebe Auf Den Ersten Blick", from DÄF, "Moskow-Diskow" from Telex, and, like or like not Frenchmen-in-music, the extremely brilliant "Tombé pour la France", from Etienne Daho, even may be not a completely synth driven song. Change it for "Driving away from home" from It's Inmaterial or Sparks' "Dance godammit". Or so much...

New Order's Elegia and Kraftwerk's The Model.

Does anybody else know of any similar synthpop songs, i.e. moody, melancholic and distant sounding?

Maybe "Souvenir" by OMD might fit that description? that would be my vote.

-----

My favorite synth sounds:
"Trans-Europe Express" by Kraftwerk
"Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" by Dominatrix
"Isolation" by Joy Division

oh, it depends on my mood [:)]

They're mostly instrumentals.

- Martin L. Gore's cover of Tuxedomoon's "In A Manner Of Speaking" as well as the original version.
- Midge Ure's cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold The World".
- Roxy Music's "Tara".
- The Smiths' "Oscillate Wildly".
- Ultravox!'s "Just For A Moment" (not very synthy... but I like the piano interlude).
- Depeche Mode's "Agent Orange".
- NewOrder's "Thieves Like Us" (instrumental)
- The Durutti Column's "A Smile In The Crowd".
- Maybe something by Dif Juz?

Folks,

I'm pleasantly shocked by all the love for Freur's "Doot Doot" - I remember hearing it on the "Out Of Order" show on NYC's K-Rock in the late 90's - once per show, they'd pull out a synthy 80's alterna-hit and kind of make fun of it, but after that one they stepped back and said "And that was...surprisingly relevant sounding, actually."

Of course, one of my favorite songs of the '90s is Underworld's "Pearls Girl"...ah, the more things change...

Here's my favorites. Not necessarily synth-full stop, but synth prominent.

"Warp" by New Musik
"Watching Over Burning Fields" by China Crisis
"Bedsitter" by Soft Cell
"Out Of Sync" by Devo (Probably my fave NW band. Not their greatest song, but the synth riff in this is one of their best.)
"Everyday I Die" by the Tubeway Army
"Definitive Gaze" by Magazine
"Like a Mirace" by John Foxx
"Lions" by Tones on Tail (A bit minimalistic, I admit.)

Science by Berlin Blondes. My mouth dropped when I first heard it. It's a very simple song, but it was instant love that has not faded.

Hey ya Peter V!

I believe I've seen you around the racing forums over the years (7G?, OC?, CCF (nee: CW)?, ChampWeb?, TorontoMotorsports?, etc).

If so, are ya coming to L.A. for the Long Beach Grand Prix April 7-8-9? Maybe we'll meet-up at some point. Check the forums for the "meet at the track" info. Or not. [:D]

If not, see ya around the www. [8D]
