If you're in your 50's, continuing the facade of youthful lust and rebellion in a desperate attempt to remain hip and relevant, just looks silly.

I agree with most of this but "four good songs" may be a little generous. "Black Diamond" ..... and what else?

I just go done listening to Kiss Alive, and was thinking Black Diamond was a great song, then I read this. There are a few more I like, but for nostalgic reasons only.

I love Black Diamond, but c'mon, they have at least 30 great songs, which is 30 more than R.E.M. has. And doesn't "I Was Made For Lovin' You" count as New Wave?

It's more disco than new wave. But it's an impressive achievement in that it sucks not only as a disco song, but also as a Kiss song.

I guess he should have been more specific- 30 different songs, not 1 great song 30 times over with a different title. Hey, Kiss was my first concert ever, 1976, still have the ticket stub! Black Diamond.....R&R All Nite and Love Gun, ok 3 songs. I'm more surprised how many R.E.M. haters there are. Sure, the last album...errr..the last few albums... sucked but ....

I agree that Radiohead is very overated. I actually saw them live when they were an opening act for Belly. Yes I said opening act!I never saw a band try so hard in my entire life to be Nirvana. Belly ruled though. The club was so hot three people past out, and the band was handing out their own water bottles to the audience.

The sun never sets for those who ride into it.

OK I lied, KISS has 15 great songs: Strutter, Black Diamond, Rock & Roll All Nite, Calling Dr. Love, I Was Made For Lovin' You, Sure Know Something, all of Destroyer except Beth (8 songs) and Hard Luck Woman.

That's still 30 more than R.E.M.

I like the early REM stuff. Back when the lyrics were unintelligible and you could just infer whatever you wanted. Their neo-psychedelic sound in the early days was/is cool in kind of a Birds-ish way.

Still have my 45 of "Radio Free Europe" along with lots of embarrasing 80's tripe better not revealed here.

That's how I feel about Radiohead and (to a lesser extent) Pink Floyd. At least the guys in Pink Floyd could sing and (occasionally) came up with interesting sonic textures. What exactly has Radiohead done except be a third-rate PF impersonator?

I hate Morrissey more, though. How can anyone listen to that whiny gibberish and call it poetry? Every song he's ever lent his "vocals" to is out-of-tune and out-of-meter!

I think you'd like The Snap's cover of "Hey Bulldog." Now if I could just figure out how to make a rip of it...

Judging by the british poll released just today that "Definately Maybe" is the greatest album of all time, I'd have to say Oasis.
Although I loved their first two records they were, essentially, a Beatles cover band who wrote their own songs...

The Cure!!!!
They;ve had some good tracks in a nearly 30 year career... but that's it.
They are in no way deserving of the respect they get.
Numerous bands sre far superior.

Yeah, I don't get Radiohead either. They're boring and driftless.
REM's early career was fantastic, as djcraig said:

I agree, it was so fresh and cool when it first came out. "Radio Free Europe" was so unusual, so unlike anything I'd heard back then. Murmur and their earlier EP were amazing; so was Reckoning. After a while their sound changed somewhat and then they got to the point of being totally overrated.
