I met U2's Bono after a show in Cleveland, OH on Dec. 9, 1984 and said "I really love the song Red Light" -- he responded with "There's a lot hidden in that song that people don't realize."

<br>Amazing movie. Much better than that other "Crash".[/quote]

It's the Citizen Kane of movies with leg-wound fucking scenes.

I'm convinced that Duran Duran songs mean nothing--well, those after Rio, at least. Just a bunch of rhyming words strung together. ("Shake up the picture; the lizard mixture", etc. etc.)

The same with New Order. I imagine they laugh at people who try to interpret them; I sure do!

Beck has a tendency to do that. He just adds words that sound good to him and fit the music he has in mind. The lyrics themselves don't mean shit[}:)]

One of the classics 'song meaning' shockers was Cindy Laupers "She Bop"....

I stopped listening to Duran Duran after Ragged Tiger but I always assumed LeBon's lyrics were just free form word associations, words that sound good together as opposed to having a menaing. Kind of like what Liz Frasier does in the Cocteau Twins, but LeBon uses real words instead of just meaningless syllables.

Now, who can tell me what Get Out Of London is about? Left my house now I hang out in a phone box/ making coffins out of bits of old wood/ sell them cheap to the counsil though I know it's not good/ to be a traitor/ collaborator/ I'd rather be a snitch than a coctail waiter

I think most songs have a meaning to the people that write them or maybe they don't even know half the time! I actually take my own meaning from songs. Like the aforementioned DD I can take lines from "the Reflex' and relate to them personally Like 'I'm on a ride and I want to get off' (yep tough times)so I guess the point I am trying to make is that they mean more to the listener. I haven't a clue what Nirvana were writing about half the time though but still you can always get something from it. the only songs I'd say that are completely menaingless are the crap that clogs up the charts here in the uk all that 'shaking your ass' crap, gag.[xx(]It depends i guess the msuic is first but if a band had really naff lyrics and they weren't a dance act it would put me off I must admit![|)]As a song-writer myself I liek to write more abstract lyrics but I know what they are about and can always tell peopel no matter how weird they sound! It doesn't bother me as much as the music as a listener.I think sting wrote very good lyrics with the Police he was clever. So are Rush.

LINED UP
(Andrews/Allen/Marsh)

Tired of all this crawling around
Realizing the joke was on us
Reaching out to the obvious
Starting with an answer not a question
Our most acceptable businesses
All aligned in just one direction
Organized on the same lines
With one face, one side

We got all lined up
We got all lined up
We got all lined up
All lined up
All lined up

Back at the all-night party
We're getting clearer all the time
Refined to one shape, frozen like crystal
It has the symmetry of perfect design
One line leads to another
They cross at the corners, run straight at the sides
It reads the same way in any direction
Two red circles and a thick black spine

I'd imagine it's along the same lines as Units' "More Alike"/"More More Alike" -- a sarcastic sneer at those who lose their individuality and blend into the scenery. You know, people who shop at The Gap.

that is an EXCELLENT intrepretation of the song… I never thought of it that way. I thought it had to do about greed/money, but I like your intrepretation waaaaaay better.

Just about anything by Tears for Fears rhymes beautifully but their songs really don't say much.

I just realized there are more lyrics (which are edited out of the version I'm familiar with)...

Let it fall into place we could tie it to a tree
We could point it at you we could make it a habit
We could leave it outside or we could give it our food
Understand it or we could ignore it

Holding all our past in the one hand
We showed those people in a way they understand
Shiny little eyes on a big red bus
The ones we point at work for us
One sharp point between distinction
Going this way for X amount of time
Frame - line - and convergence
From the first to the final
This intention is mine

I'm no master of lyrical interpretation, but the word "convergence" would seem to pretty much bag that one.

"More Alike's" lyrics are funnier, though. I've probably botched them (no lyric sheet to go off of), but... close enough!

MORE ALIKE
(Ryser/Webber)

When our team goes out to bowl
When we go to the shopping mall
When we're riding on the bus
We will look more alike
We will look more alike

Standing in line at the bank
Someone notices my tie
Says, "Yes, kinda looks like yours!"
I got it at Roos-Atkins
We will look more alike

People look (we look)
More alike (alike)
People look (we look)
More and more alike (alike)
People look (we look)
More alike

Sam takes a diet pill
Bob shaves his face
Gus eats Bran Buds
Fred puts on a hairpiece
Products are like fate
Products are like fate
Products are like a fate
In which we will look alike

People look more alike
People look more alike

More than wanting to know what a song means, I just wanna know what some of the lyrics are. I HAET it when artists don't include a lyric sheet to their songs[}:)] Prime example: "Call It Weird" by Clan Of Xymox. It is one of my favourite tunes, but I have no fukken clue what she's sayin[:(!]
