I don't think any of these were "singles," but they are among my favorite songs by the band...
REM - Windout
XTC - Love at First Sight
Squeeze - Love Circles
Big Dipper - All Going Out Together
Billy Bragg - The Marriage
Bongos - Telephoto Lens
Chills - Double Summer
Elvis Costello - Beyond Belief
Replacements-Can't Hardly Wait
English Beat - Sole Salvation
Joe Jackson - 123 Go
The The - Gravitate to Me
Robyn Hitchcock - One Long Pair of Eyes
When I interned at WLIR-FM, I gave DJ "Larry the Duck" Robyn Hitchcock's "Element of Light" CD, telling him he should play the bonus track "Tell Me About Your Drugs" on his "Off the Boat" import show. He did, and it became a minor hit on the station, placing second in the "Screamer of the Week" (best new song) competition that week.
A few weeks later, we're driving in to see Robyn at Irving Plaza, and DJ "Malibu Sue" is interviewing him live on the air. She mentions that WLIR is playing "Drugs," and Robun says something to the effect of "why in God's name are you playing THAT?" I almost drove off the LIE!
