Best New Wave Clubs

hands down...MALIBU in Long Island. Although, I could have lived without the Guido room off to the side.

Ahh.. "The Piano Bar" Sometimes We'd go in there just to hit the early freebie buffet or to get some breathing room since it was almost always less 'crowded' in there. Yes, it was indeed a guido & guidette sanctuary [:D]

Club Post Nuclear ....Laguna Beach this one ruled!!

So many nights and early mornings were spent at all of these clubs.
The Square, The Omni, The Stone, The Twilight Zone (I had my VIP pass for years) One Step Beyond, Palladium (or as we referred to it The GetLaidium) X's New Wave Annex, I remember going to a big party there one night...and then there was Lipps and Primary in Walnut Creek. Primary was at Heather Farms if I remember correct.

Long nights many many years ago, I can't play like I used too. My body gets mad at me. There are only a few people the remember those days - or admit to remembering them.

The days when the Bay Area had a club scene. It's good to think back forgetting the clothes we all wore and remember the good - boozed out - smoked out fun we used to have.

Well The Berkeley Square was cool and so was the Keystone West al lot of gr[8] shows played there.

Did anyone go to One Step Beyond in San Jose, CA???

Clubbing was fun... Going to shows were better but new waver parties were absolutly the best.

No doubt about it.FT. Lauderdale,Florida's "New Wave Lounge" was the place to be located in the heart of the strip on the beach on A1A.From about 1981 up until 1985 this was a real happening place,full of TV sets with New Wave Music Videos,plus some great New Wave songs by the DJ's.I loved it,and felt bad when it finally went under back in 1985.

Also in Conneticut,"The Haven" in Banksville was a real happening place as well.They always seem to hold WLIR and WDRE Partys,every Friday nights.Located right off of The Merritt Pkwy.Heading East bound on your right.I don't know if the club is still in existence or not,because I don't live up North anymore,and haven't been to any clubs since the 80's.

It changed names to Krypton and then The Ivy, but sometime in the mid 90s went out of biz. It was actually in Banksville, NY in Westchester, but you could spit on the Greenwich, CT border from their parking lot. Was a cool place to go to through the early 90s, despite bathrooms that were always teeming with puke. lol

Wow. I'm feelin a little west coast right now. Anyway, the club I spent my 18th birthday (Aug, 82) at was called Phazes (Phases?) Waaay out here in the San Fernando Valley, CA (You know, were the Valley Girls come from you Zappa fans). Not big enough for bands to play, but plenty of theatrics on stage dancing to Frequency 7 by Visage. LOL.

Let's see...there was Goodies in Fullerton, the BBC in Santa Ana, the Peppermint Elephant in Upland, Florentine Gardens on Sunset, and of course Dillon's in Westwood. But my favorite club was on Beverly and La Cienega Blvd (across from the Beverly Center and next door to the old folks home) and I cannot for the life of me remember the name. I went there just about every Wed & Fri nights(little help with the name NE1?). It was suspiciously burned down if memory serves. Ah there was nothing like heading over to the Atomic cafe after a night of clubbing for some authentic chinese food (where if you did not get a cockroach in your food, your meal was free!) and relaxing to Sid singing, My Way, on the old jukebox. Those were the days.....

Spit was great, but a little too mainstream (i.e., lots of Billy Idol). Not a surprise since, as you mention, it was a disco that wanted to make use of the premises on Mondays and Wednesdays.

SPIZE was my homebase as well as Paris NY, Spankys, The Loop(malibu, saw U2 there with 80 people) Spit,007, The Rainforest, from82' 87' Me my bro Sean sure shot, Johnny Sex, Dino Kitty remember any of those names kids? Big Steve from Spize, Bartender Matt (RIP) We used to drive all the clubs insane with our takeover of the dance floor and our notorious slamdancing & womanizing. I remember DJ Slave(dave no shave) would cry to the owner of Paris NY (Phillipe) dont let the Champion Gene guys in or I will quit! Such a crybaby that Slave boy, and so jelouse. Great crepes in the backyard at Paris, me 7 Tommy he hairdresser won the Spize halloween contest in '84 as a clothes line. Dam its so great to read all these blasts from the past and if I beat anyone up or had sex with anyone sister back then Im truly sorry! NOT! Ha Ha just kidding Hope yo all feel and look as good as I still do all these years later![;)]

Malibu was the premier LI club ( in my opinion of course ). Probably my buddy was a bouncer, so no lines for us!
In NYC, we spent a lot of time at the Ritz, Peppermint Lounge, we saw U2 play at the Palladium ( which was actually a terrible show, remarkably enough )
In Buffalo, oddly enough, there was a pretty cool place called the Continental, which is where i heard Lene Lovich for the first time. But the king ( at least for us single guys at the time ) was Florentine Gardens on Sunset in LA. Their motto was "Through these portals pass the world's most beautiful women", and it was a true statement! You would go up to girls that looked like supermodels, ask them to dance and they would. Ahh, those were the days [:)]

I seem to recall the Seven Seas nightclub burning down, but I could be wrong, and I don't think it was on Beverly, but I can't remember for sure. There was a strange nightclub in under the Beverly Center, but it didn't last long. The more I think about it, the more I remember. Oh, and the Peppermint Elephant was actually in Claremont.

No...I don't think it was the Seven Seas....that club sounds familar, but I never made it to that one. Keep guessing!

I forgot to mention the Palace and the Hollywood Paladium. These were always a good hangout....especially after concerts...
