A surprisingly good new station popped up in SoCal

For those in the L.A./O.C. area who still listen to radio, 103.1 FM officially changed their format to alternative rock today (there was an article about the change in last week's Los Angeles Times).
And what a change! Just today I heard X (White Girl), The Dead Kennedys (their cover of Viva Las Vegas), Frank Black (Los Angeles), Social Distortion (Story of My Life, When She Begins), The Clash (Clash City Rockers, Lost in the Supermarket), The The (the Beaten Generation), and newer stuff like Interpol, the Polyphonic Spree, and the Postal Service. They even played that recent cover of "Mad World" from the Donnie Darko movie. There's some mid-90's grunge mixed in there but it doesn't detract too much.
No DJ's and no commericals (I guess because the station's so new), but something's telling me this station is too good to last. Anyone down here have any opinions of it?

It's becoming a nationwide epidemic

Over here in Washington State, we had two stations flip to the same format within 19 hours of one another - the return-to-its-roots KNDD and the new KRQI. I heard the Pixies' "Where Is My Mind?" on commercial radio l

The call letters are KDLD/KDLE. Their official name, I gather, is "Indie 103". I really wish they wouldn't use that corny moniker as their permanent name, but I guess I can live with it since the music they have is a lot better than the slag that KROQ

In the early and mid 90's we had an "alternative" station here in Minneapolis. It lasted about 4 years total, although I never thought it was all that hot. In all the time the station was on the air I never once heard The Damned broadcast.
Now we've

Now we've got the obligitory 80's pop station, which for going on 3 years now touts itself as "The All New Mix-104", completely confusing me. The format is no longer new, nor is their playlist.
I seriously want to take over that station a la Air

I tuned into 'Indie 103' here in SoCal, and it's a vast improvement over KROQ (not a difficult task), although I've already heard "Devil's Haircut" twice in the 1-2 hours of listening over a few days, so there are definitely alt-rock "staples" in standard

Of course, we shouldn't forget the reason for the sudden west coast swing - KBZT in San Diego. That station probably forced 91X to move gold tracks (not by the Beastie Boys) back into its regular rotation. Last I checked, KBZT was winning the ratings ba

I have been listening to the "new" 103.1 obsessively since it went on the air - and I am constantly asking myself "Is this station for real"? I have *NEVER* heard "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave, "She's In Parties" by Bauhaus, "Viva Las Vegas" by The Dead K
