You choice and your comments as to why?
If there's more than 8 albums, I've chosen the first 8 (unless there's obvious crap in favor of some later stuff). I'll compile all the results for all the bands in one place.

I'm sure others won't agree, but I think dM got better after Vince Clarke left -- I like the early stuff, but seems like they developed their voice and depth best around BC, MFTM and Violator. Don't get me wrong, though -- the only album I wouldn't recommend in its entirety on there is Songs of Faith and Devotion!

There are way too many of these to post comments in every one. I pick Black Celebration.

black celebration was not my first exposure to dM but it was easily to most powerful and that remains even today. the disc from start to finish is perfection in my mind. i do not have to skip a single song. in fact, i think i will listen to it now.

Music for the Masses. It's almost like a greatest hits cd.

Black Celebration was the pinnacle of DeMode's musical opus. It is not only their best, it is also one of the best albums to come from the 80s. I also like that this is one where Martin L. Gore sang in more than one track.

Ultra is their worst effort, closely followed by Exciter.

Black Celebration for me. If you've seen the DM Documentary on the Singles DVD, Andy Fletcher pretty much summed it up why. None of the tracks are really outstanding singles but together as a whole, it's the most complete DM album. He said that it is probably the hardcore Mode fans' favourite (whereas Violator is probably the top for the rest).

I actually agree with obs that this is the most cohesive DM album---almost a concept album....but it was too dark - with no light --no chariscuro (sp?) no dark and light ....I stand by my pick of "Broken Frame"

Construction for me. Mostly I am fond of it as it was the 1st DM (tape) I'd heard and owned. It's so....well, cute. Violator was the last DM album I could get excited about. That's a very close 2nd, actually. Can you believe I've never listened to any later DM albums? I am just too much a fan of Vince Clarke-era DM. I like that early electronica bleepy-bloopy sound the best.

I guess DM wouldn't agree with you on this one as they played 4 songs off SOFAD last night - Walking in My Shoes, Judas, In Your Room & I Feel You.
I think SOFAD is an excellent example on a bands maturing sound so that if your clinging to a particular sound you'll forever be stuck in the past.

That's sort of how I feel about SOFAD, too. It's one of my favorite DM albums.
