Have they turned you on to the artists that originally recorded the song? When the Pet Shop Boys covered It's Alright, Sterling Void gained a new fan. I think it's cool to enjoy the same artists that your musical idols do.

The only one I can think of right now is The Lime Spiders - discovered because of Pagan Babies' cover of "Beyond The Fringe".

Heh...the Two Live Crew's "Dick Almighty" (heavy sampling of Man-Machine) led me to rediscover Kraftwerk.

I love Jon Auer's cover of The Cars - Misfit Kid. Also Gary Jules & Michael Andrews cover of Tears For Fears - Mad World. Both are brilliant and different from the originals

I must admit I wasn't very familiar with the Blow Monkeys until I heard Ivy's rendition of "Digging Your Scene."

Actually the Talking Heads covering Take Me to the River made me dig a lot deeper into Al Green's stuff.
Up to that point I'd only ever listened to his hits.

Actually, that's what the Red Hot Chili Peppers did for me with Stevie Wonder when they covered Higher Ground. Stevie is one groovy, funkadelic, musical master.
