Shit, that looks like a big regurgitation...but I swear it's not! All these songs give me goosebumps. [:I]

Just the first ones that came to mind...
U2 - "With or Without You"
The Young Dubliners - "Don't You Worry"
Gary O'(Connor) - "Shades of '45" (covered atrociously by Red Rockers)
Kate Bush - "Cloudbusting"
Gerry Rafferty - "Right Down the Line"
Gin Blossoms - "Found Out About You"
Spoons - "Waterline"
Savage Garden - "To the Moon and Back"
Missing Persons - "Surrender Your Heart"
Mondo Rock - "State of the Heart"
Blue Oyster Cult - "Don't Fear the Reaper"
Dexy's Midnight Runners - "All in All (This One Last Wild Waltz)"
The Stranglers - "Golden Brown"
The Pogues - "Tuesday Morning"
Fay Ray - "Cold as Steel"
The Lotus Eaters - "The First Picture of You"
Thompson Twins - "Lay Your Hands on Me"
Alan Parsons Project - "Eye in the Sky"
Fleetwood Mac - "Dreams"
Blue Rose - "Find My Way [Back] Home"
Simon and Garfunkel - "The Boxer"
Payola$ - "Where Is This Love"
Face to Face - "Why Do I Say"
Frozen Ghost - "Promises"
Cyndi Lauper - "Time After Time"
Mike + the Mechanics - "Silent Running"
Crowded House - "Don't Dream It's Over"
Paul Davis - "I Go Crazy"
The Church - "Under the Milky Way"
Kansas - "Dust in the Wind"
The Cure - "Lovesong" (well, and "Plainsong," but mostly "Lovesong")
Idle Eyes - "Tokyo Rose"
Roaring Boys - "House of Stone"
Men at Work - "Overkill"
Prefab Sprout - "Appetite"
There were also a lot of songs where a certain part would do that and the rest wouldn't. Like for instance the bookending keyboard riff of The Producers' "She Sheila" and the guitar that kicks off New Musik's "This World of Water" and the violin that does likewise for Peter Murphy's "Cuts You Up." Of course, the rest of those songs aren't especially moving.

Two for me that immediately come to mind"
Over The Rhine - Rhaposodie (that's how they spell it)........this song is hauntingly beautiful musically, lyrically, and Karin Bergquist's voice is as angelic as it ever gets on this song. This song should never be attempted by anyone else ever, it is as perfect as it can ever get.
Illusion - Beautiful Country. From their CD Out of The Mist. Jane Relf's vocals are at their best, the song just flows beautifully from start to finish. This was essentially whay would morph into Renaissance before Annie Haslam. A PERFECT song IMO.
Many others, but these two just immediately come to mind.
Excellent topic - THANKS

Just about everything from Virginia Astley falls into this category for me. I just got an update from her website
http://www.virginiaastley.com/ about some upcoming releases including a cd with her daughter.

Many of the tracks from just about any Barclay James Harvest CD. Two songs that come to mind from them are:
Poor Man's Moody Blues and Hymn, both from the BJH release of Gone To Earth.
This was a band that put out some absolutely stunning releases. Even when they reformed and released new material in the 90s, it was as graceful and lush as their early days.
Etta James - At Last
Andy Williams - Moon River
Henry Mancini - Moon River
Tony Bennett - Fly Me To The Moon
Perry Como - It's Impossible, and And I Love You So
Children of A Lesser God Soundtrack
