At the half-way point of this musical voyage. Thanks again to those who have shared opinions and/or tunes from the bands I've asked about. I've learned tons. Again calling for all the guru's opinions on these artists:
Barbara Manning
Mano Negra
Man Sized Action
Members
Membranes
Microdisney
Momus
Munchener Freiheit

Not the absolute bee's knees when talking about punk bands, but definitely worth some of your time. All three albums have recently been reissued by Captain Oi. The first two albums are great melodic punk with a reggae vibe happening in many of the songs. They may not hit you on first listen, but by the third listen, you'll be hooked. The third album 'Uprhythm Downbeat' (aka Go West) was a lot more commercial with some funky beats and a horn section. It has the song Working Girl, which was played on alternative radio quite a bit back in the early '80s.
Munchener Freiheit
Try to wrap your head around this: imagine Paul McCartney fronting ELO (but singing mostly in German) produced by Bjorn and Benny from Abba. Add an extra layer of gloss.
I love them but they may be too sweet to anyone looking for something a little more raw and edgy

Thanks for your expert opinion. Holy Crap! Your description of Munchener is VERY interesting...I'll have to track some of that down
Just having ELO being produced by Benny and Bjorn would get me to buy a ticket[:D]

Not quite Spaz.
While that is an accurate description of Freiheit, Munchener Freiheit were a German New Wave band whose albums are supposedly very good if you can understand German.
In order to reach an international market, they shortened their name to Freiheit and released their first, and only album in English, Fantasy. The CD is a highly prized find (got one shrinkwrapped in its long box off Ebay for $21, natch).
As for the album, all the tracks are as slickly produced as the hit single and is advised to listen to them in small amount as too much sacchrine is bad for you.

In short, these are the only tracks you need by them:
Solitary Confinement (Stiff version as the Virgin one is terrible)
Sound of the Suburbs
Offshore Banking Business (just to confirm once and for all that white people should not do Reggae)
The band? Just another fly-by-night group who were making the most of their short-term success. The album on Virgin flopped and there really isn't much more to say about them.

Hmmm...still not understanding what you meant by 'not quite'?
Freiheit and Munchener Freiheit are the same band, yes. They've released at least 3 albums in English as Freihiet (Fantasy, Romancing In The Dark and Love Is No Science) as well as over a dozen albums as MF (all in German). THis is not to mention their side projects like S.O.L. and others.
Their first 2 albums were very new-wavey but by the time of the third album, they'd crossed over to the slick and glossy side...which was even BETTER! I followed them roughly through the new millennium and then stopped. I haven't really paid attention since... I'm sure I'll go back and find what I missed eventually.

Man Sized Action was a Minneapolis punk band in the very early 80's. They had 2 12"eps out on Reflex Records, the label owned by Bob Mould and Terry Katzman. Like Rifle Sport and unlike early Husker Du MSA wasn't just power-chord thrash, but had a bit of post-pink sinewy guitar lines weaving in and out of the mix.

Didn't know they released three English albums, thanks for the correction.
My interest in getting more of their material stopped with "Fantasy" as although the hit was great, having a whole album like it was a bit much.

Momus seems to be spending most of his time lately promoting gay rights issues.
